Xavi Hernandez is leaving Barcelona and the best betting sites have now turned their attention to the race to replace him.

The former midfielder revealed his decision to depart in the summer recently and the search for a successor continues.

“I would like to announce that I will not remain Barca manager beyond the end of this season,” Xavi said after a 5-3 defeat by Villarreal, a result which would have seen the pressure build on the coach anyway.

“I had decided to leave a few days ago, but I think now is the right time to announce it to help reduce the tension that exists around the club. A change of dynamic is needed.

“So, as a Barca fan, thinking of the club's best interests, and of the players, I think it's the right decision. No one is bigger than the club and I am a supporter above all. I love this club.”

Since the announcement, Barcelona have climbed into the top two, but remain eight points behind Real Madrid at the summit of the table.

Who will be in the Camp Nou dugout at the beginning of next season? Let’s take a look at the latest odds with football betting sites.

Flick And Arteta Now Favourites For Role

According to reports, Hansi Flick is currently learning Spanish and his price has shortened drastically into 5/2.

It is also rumoured that Flick has expressed an interest in taking over the Spanish giants.

The 59-year-old has been a free agent since September 2023, after being the first manager in Germany's history to be sacked as the national team's coach.

He did not do well with Germany, but he has won trophies at club level and is available without Barcelona needing to pay compensation.

Mikel Arteta was installed as the early favourite to be the next Barcelona boss, but he is now the 6/1 second favourite.

The media in Spain and England has provided conflicting reports of the issue, with most English outlets stating that Arteta is unlikely to leave for Barcelona, while Spanish media reported that he is open to the role.

The Blaugrana might be a bigger club than his current employers, but they are not being run anywhere near as well.

Marquez And De Zerbi Remain Poised

Rafael Marquez is now the 10/1 third favourite with Bet365 to succeed Xavi.

Currently in charge of Barcelona B, he could follow in the footsteps of Pep Guardiola and Tito Vilanova by being promoted from within.

A former teammate of Xavi, Marquez made no secret of how hard it would be to turn the job down if it was to be offered to him.

With 163 appearances across a seven-year period at Barca, the Mexican fully understands what it would mean to be named as Xavi's successor.

Roberto De Zerbi is the next in line to succeed Xavi at odds of 12/1.

The Italian has done a stellar job with current club Brighton, and is on the radar of a number of elite clubs around Europe.

Sanchez And Klopp May Be Looked At

If there was a manager of the European season award then Michel Sanchez would be among the favourites to win it.

He has Girona third in La Liga after 29 games, just two points behind Barcelona who sit in second place.

It is surely only a matter of time before Michel lands a big job, but a price of 14/1 shows that the bookmakers do not envisage him replacing Xavi.

Jurgen Klopp is set to call time on his Liverpool career in the summer, and it is not beyond the realm of possibility that he and Xavi swap dugouts.

Klopp is leaving Anfield because he has run out of energy, so it is hard to imagine him taking the Barcelona job before the start of next term. Odds of 20/1 are therefore not overly tempting.

Motta And Tuchel Could Be In Contention

A former Barcelona player, Thiago Motta (20/1) has made Bologna European challengers in Serie A this season, sitting just three points off the top four.

The Italian has been in charge of Bologna for almost 18 months and has resurrected the side he inherited.

This may be what the Barcelona hierarchy look towards, as they hope to be back in serious contention for major trophies next term.

A new manager entering the list of potential suitors for the role is Thomas Tuchel.

The Bayern Munich manager has announced he will leave the German side at the end of the season and betting apps have the former Chelsea boss at 20/1 to be the next man in the Barca dugout.

Tuchel has managed in Germany, France and England so far in his career, and he may end up in Spain ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Alonso And Nagelsmann Among The Outsiders For Job

Xabi Alonso has emerged as the frontrunner for the next Liverpool manager vacancy following Klopp’s bombshell, but he is likely to be on Barcelona’s shortlist too.

Succeeding Klopp would not be easy, but Liverpool are at least a well-run club with whom the Spaniard has connections.

Conversely, Alonso is not seen as a leading contender to take the helm at Barca, as odds of 25/1 indicate.

Julian Nagelsmann, also 25/1, would be an interesting pick.

A bright and innovative coach, he is tied up with Germany until after Euro 2024, but his long-term future is thought to lie in the club game.
