DraftKings "My Stat Sheet" helps Ontario players with responsible gambling

Responsible gambling is a huge focus across Canada, so DraftKings new “My Stat Sheet” is going to be welcomed in Ontario, where the operator is regulated.

“My Stat Sheet” is a gaming tool where players can assess, track and interact with their personal gambling statistics. The objective is to give players the ability to get proactive, to monitor their play, so they can make data-driven decisions.

It will be an important tool for people, said Jennifer Aguiar, DraftKings Chief Compliance Officer.

“As sports betting technology continues to evolve, DraftKings remains committed to continuously enhancing our robust responsible gaming program,” she said. “The My Stat Sheet tool will help customers evaluate their play and make informed choices.”

Provincial Government Looks to Loto Quebec to Help It Balance Budget by End of Decade

Staring at a budget deficit of $11 billion for 2024-2025, the Quebec government is looking at crown corporations like Loto-Québec and Hydro Quebec to help balance the budget by the end of this decade.

Both companies have been asked to find savings and revenue through “optimization efforts”. Quebec Finance Minister Eric Girard tabled the budget in the provincial legislature on Tuesday.

That news wasn’t met with open arms by the Quebec Online Gaming Coalition, a group comprised of private igaming operators like DraftKings, Bet99, and Rush Street Interactive, partnering with Apricot Investments, dedicated to bringing an Ontario-style competitive, regulatory framework to Canada’s second-most populous province.

“The Quebec Online Gaming Coalition deplores the fact that the Quebec government has decided to deprive itself of substantial tax revenues by refusing to regulate the online gaming market on its territory,” said Coalition spokesperson Nathalie Bergeron.

“In addition to royalties, regulation would create many well-paid jobs here in Quebec, while generating significant public revenues, as is currently the case in Ontario. The Ontario model has contributed $523 million in revenues to provincial and municipal governments, and nearly $1.6 billion to Ontario's GDP during its first year of operation.”

The Coalition has partnered with GeoComply to help provide it with data showing how and where Quebecers are gambling. GeoComply is the Vancouver-based tech company that helps igaming operators with geolocation compliance, cybersecurity and fraud prevention.

The Coalition issued a news release in December showing that the 72% of Québec players who use Loto-Québec's Espace Jeux platform do so exclusively to buy lottery tickets. When excluding Quebec players who use the Loto Québec Espace Jeux space to only buy lottery tickets, the survey found that just 26.6 per cent players visit the site to play online games and for sports betting.

A spokesperson for the Coalition says new GeoComply data regarding Quebecers and igaming will be released shortly.

An article published in La Tribune in Sherbrooke in February quoted a spokesperson for Girard who said the Quebec government will not be creating an Ontario-style regulatory regime that competes with the Loto-Québec monopoly.

New Responsible Gambling Ad Features McDavid

With new ad standards in Ontario forbidding operators from running ads using celebrities and sports stars to promote igaming, BetMGM has rolled out a new responsible gambling ad featuring Edmonton Oilers’ superstar Connor McDavid.

The new ad standards allow for that. Said McDavid, in an Instagram post: “It’s all about being responsible if you choose to bet – staying in control and not getting carried away. That's super important to me. And I really hope it's advice that everyone follows.”

The ad spots are running in the U.S. and Canada.
