The Canadian Football League went a little easier during Week 5. Despite this, Week 6 gets underway on Thursday night. Can Edmonton get their first win at home against Hamilton? Will Montreal get a measure of revenge versus Toronto?

Anyway, here are our sports betting openers.

CFL Betting Advice: Betting the Spread!

These first five weeks keep offering some solid results for Canadian Sports Bettors. This weekend features four games.

Here are the numbers after Week 5.

Team Straight Up ATS Over/Under
Winnipeg 4-1 4-1 2-3
BC 4-1 4-1 2-3
Calgary 1-3 1-3 1-3
Montreal 2-2 2-2 2-2
Hamilton 1-3 1-3 2-2
Saskatchewan 3-1 2-2 3-1
Ottawa 1-3 1-3 0-4
Edmonton 0-5 1-4 2-3
Toronto 3-0 3-0 2-1

With Week 6 approaching quickly Thursday night, let’s get moving for the Ontario Sports Bettors again. Here is the CFL Week 6 Schedule.

This Week’s Schedule with Moneylines (All Times Eastern)

  • Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1.70 at Edmonton Elks 2.21, Thursday, 9:00 p.m.
  • Toronto Argonauts 1.49 at Montreal Alouettes 2.73, Friday, 7:30 p.m.
  • Winnipeg Bluebombers 1.27 at Ottawa Redblacks 4.15, Saturday, 4:00 p.m.
  • Calgary Stampeders 2.06 at Saskatchewan Roughriders 1.80, Saturday, 7:00 p.m.

CFL Game of the Week

Toronto Argonauts 1.49 at Montreal Alouettes 2.73

Week 5 went a little better in the sense of the button line. Thankfully, Edmonton is still as bad as advertised, but in some ways, Calgary may still be worse. Can the Stampeders get a quarterback to not make so many ill-advised throws and mistakes?

For Canadian Sports Bettors, can Montreal rebound after getting shown the door against British Columbia? The mistakes the Alouettes keep making are alarming, considering who they are facing this week.

If Montreal thought facing the Lions with numerous short-field opportunities was bad in Week 5, wait until seeing Chad Kelly and Toronto’s offense on Friday night. Toronto and Montreal played their fair share of close battles last year. That was then, and this is now.

Montreal spread the ball better last week, but again, special teams and miscues were their downfall. Toronto features one of the better defenses in the league and caused six turnovers against British Columbia two weeks ago. This will be no easy game to win.

So, can Montreal’s defense slow down the Argonauts? Montreal will be at home, and the thought process is they can keep this close for a while. It is the second half that may be more troubling.

Expect the Toronto Argonauts to move to 4-0 with a pull-away road win. The Alouettes can keep this close but, again, not close enough to defeat the Toronto Argonauts.

Crazy CFL Bet of the Week

Hamilton Tiger-Cats 1.70 at Edmonton Elks 2.21

This is crazier because we think Hamilton can beat the spread, but will there be enough points? Keep in mind the under is at 42.5. Edmonton’s last game was an ugly 12-11 slugfest against Saskatchewan. Our other lock may be the under in Ottawa (44.5 against Winnipeg).

Both teams have seen their share of humbling losses, but Hamilton managed to win last week. It was far from pretty, and they only scored 21 points. However, a win is a win. Edmonton lost last week in a game the Roughriders wanted to all but give away.

On the other hand, the Tiger-Cats are on the road against the worst team in the CFL for the past couple of seasons. Hamilton played reasonably well to get their first win. A second win is likely by at least a field goal versus an Elks squad that cannot get out of their own way.

Let’s take that -2.5 points anyway at 1.91. With trying to play this more sensibly, an under parlay between Ottawa and the Edmonton games might be the trick too.

Power Rankings

  1. Toronto Argonauts ↔
  2. British Columbia Lions ↔
  3. Winnipeg Blue Bombers ↔
  4. Saskatchewan Roughriders ↑
  5. Montreal Alouettes ↓

Extra Points

These are some bonus wagers worth a look at for this week:

  1. SWinnipeg -4.5 points first half at 1.91
  2. Hamilton first to 10 at 1.76
  3. Winnipeg's first scoring play to be a touchdown at 3.50
