When is the 2021 World Darts Championship?
- The 2021 competition is only played for one day in 2021, that’s January 1st, the day of the final! The action gets underway on December 11th 2020 and there are two sessions, an afternoon and an evening session played every day – the final and semi-finals being an exception.
- Beforehand there will be a number of qualifying competitions such as the North American Championship, World Youth Championship, Oceanic Masters and German Super League. The bulk of these minor competitions take place in November.

- The competition has been staged in London’s Alexandra Palace since 2008. It was previously staged at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex but it outgrew the venue. In the 2018/2019 World Championship over 90,000 tickets were sold.
What is the Competition Format?
- The competition is open to 96 players made up of: the top 32 from the PDC Order of Merit, the 32 highest ranked players on the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit, plus 32 qualifiers from around the world (this will include two female players).
- The 32 players from the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit and the 32 international qualifiers will meet in the first round and the 32 winners will proceed to the second round where each will face a player from the world’s top-32 (Order of Merit). Thereafter the winners will continue to proceed to the following round.
- First and second-round matches are the ‘best of five sets’. The third and fourth rounds are ‘best of seven sets’; the quarter-finals are ‘best of nine sets’; the semis are ‘best of 11’ and the outright champion will need to prove himself best in a race to seven sets as the final is the ‘best of 13 sets’.
