Gerwyn Price and Michael Smith were the only two favourites to emerge victorious last night and they did so in dominant fashion, both recording 3-0 victories.

Although the bookmakers heavily stack the odds in Cool Hand’s favour for this clash, we believe it will be much tighter than that with both getting a minimum of one set on the board.
With such dominant displays from both in the previous round, it’s hard to see either being completely outplayed on the stage as the first game nerves have been well and truly buried.
Humphries does have the edge in head-to-head clashes (6-3), but with the format being first to three sets, we would only need both players to pick up just a solitary set to secure a big tick in our first tip.

It’ll be All Wright On The Night
It’s fair to say Peter Wright has not been playing some of his best darts of late, but Snakebite is one man you can never write off, especially in the World Grand Prix.
He put a robust display in against a dangerous Gabriel Clemens in round one recording just shy of a 90 average, and faces Ryan Searle who had to win a deciding leg in his encounter with Damon Heta.
Incredibly, giving Wright's previous runs in this tournament which have included a final back in 2018 and a semi-final just last year, he is the outsider on betting sites heading into this one.
Now don’t get us wrong, if the double-in format wasn’t being used this would be a different conversation, but with Wright’s insane ability to slam in doubles at crucial moments, it makes us side with the former world champion in this one.
Ryan Searle has had a memorable year on the tour and will only get better in the next couple of years, but as he is still in his infancy in terms of competing in the World Grand Prix – with just three appearances to date – we have to side with the man with experience in this one.
Heavy Metal has made it past round one in just one of those appearances and with the magnitude of this tie, we expect it to be a stumbling block for the 35-year-old.
Despite us siding with Peter to progress, this match-up could go the distance and has all the ingredients necessary for a classic, but with Wright’s experience in this format we are backing the Scotsman to have too much in the tank for Searle to deal with.

Clinical Cullen To Silence Smith
Joe Cullen went under the radar in round one, claiming a 2-0 victory over a potentially tricky Mike De Decker while averaging a sturdy 92.
Ross Smith overcame a subpar Jonny Clayton, with his big scoring proving too much for the Welshman to handle.
However, with Cullen exceeding Clayton’s average by over 10 points, we expect the Bradford man to more than mix it with Smith in what promises to be a rip-roaring battle.
We’re aware this will not be straight forward for Cullen and having lost to Smudger in their only meeting this year it would be easy to take Smith’s side.
However, Cullen has exceeded Smith’s checkout percentage throughout 2023, and is far superior when it comes to 100+ checkouts, which we believe in such a tight affair is paramount.
This is the Rockstar’s eighth appearance in this competition and with it being just the third for Smith, we believe the Cullen's experience will be vital in what could potentially be a five-set tungsten tussle.
Following such a fiery start in round one, we’re expecting Cullen throw down the gauntlet and match whatever Smith throws at him and book his place in the last eight.
