Evan Ferguson has experienced a challenging spell since joining Roma on loan from Brighton in the summer.

After bursting onto the Premier League scene with the south coast club in the 2022/23 season, the world seemed to be at the feet of the Irish striker.

He became a regular for the Seagulls the following season, but has struggled for form since, and his future is now uncertain, with betting sites creating a market on his next move.

The 21-year-old has found starts hard to come by under Daniele De Rossi at Roma, and has only registered one goal and one assist in Serie A so far.

Ferguson has shown his quality at times, particularly in the Europa League, where he struck twice in Roma’s 3–0 win over Celtic.

Despite his struggles at club level, Ferguson remains a key figure for the Republic of Ireland as they prepare for the UEFA play-offs in March, hoping to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.

Some reports have suggested that he may leave Roma early in the January transfer window, so it will be interesting to see if Brighton recall him to the squad or move him on.

There are likely to be many admirers for the striker, and here we look at the main clubs in the running.

Woeful Wolves Need Goals

Wolves head the market at 2/1 with most football betting sites, and a centre-forward is sure to be high on the list for manager Rob Edwards.

The club is enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign, with a measly two points from 15 games, and will be desperate to bring in some new faces in January.

Having scored just eight goals, it is obvious that Edwards needs a goalscorer, and Ferguson’s profile as an old-fashioned centre forward would match the counterattacking approach at Molineux.

It would be a tough ask for the Irishman to score the goals needed to drag Wolves out of their slumber, but he would surely be guaranteed to be a starter.

Hoops Hot On Ferguson Trail

Celtic are firmly in the conversation, particularly with Wilfried Nancy newly installed and reshaping the attack to regain domestic domination in Scotland.

A deal would still require alignment with Brighton and Roma while the loan is active, but the SPL champions offer strikers the chance to play against lower-level defenders and a passionate fanbase that idolises those who wear the green and white hoops.

There have been a few success stories of Irish players moving to Celtic in the past, and at 2/1 in the betting, Ferguson could be on the move to Parkhead in January.

Toffees To Make A Move?

Everton remain a plausible destination given their need for reliable goals and David Moyes’ willingness to work with developing forwards.

The club will be looking to add quality in the striking department in January and would likely make a move should Ferguson's loan situation be resolved.

Financial and regulatory considerations would shape any offer, but Everton would offer top-flight minutes and a direct route to lead the line.

Odds of 4/1 with some betting apps reveal a strong chance that the young striker could move to the Toffees.

Leeds Look A Likely Destination

Leeds United are fighting hard to retain their Premier League status and continue to utilise high-energy forwards who can press and finish effectively under Daniel Farke.

Elland Road provides a good opportunity for a focal striker, and Leeds have not been shy about ambitious moves since promotion.

As with all scenarios, any agreement would need to navigate Ferguson’s Roma loan and Brighton’s contract to 2029.

The Irishman is priced at 5/1 to join the Whites.

Hearts And Forest In The Mix

Hearts (7/1) present a compelling option under Derek McInnes, but tempting Ferguson to the club could be a challenge.

The Jambos are involved in an unlikely title chase in the SPL, and a player like Ferguson could help them see off both Celtic and Rangers.

Nottingham Forest are priced at 8/1 to land the Brighton forward, but recently appointed boss Sean Dyche may want to improve in other positions.

They would give Ferguson a Premier League platform and a chance to get his career back on track.

Other Premier League Options

Among the other clubs that may be interested in signing Ferguson in January, Burnley (6/1), Fulham (10/1) and Crystal Palace (12/1) each offer a distinct proposition in terms of system fit, playing time and wage structure.

All three have limited options up front, and could look at centre-forward options depending on form and availability.

Burnley and Fulham are struggling in the league at the moment, and both clubs will hope to improve their squads in the upcoming transfer window.

Palace, in contrast, are enjoying a fabulous season, sitting in fourth in the league and are in a good position to qualify for the next round of the UEFA Conference League.

One worry that they have is the team's reliance on Jean-Philippe Mateta for goals, so Ferguson could be the perfect fit for Oliver Glasner's overachievers.
