Plymouth Vs Derby, Saturday 3pm

It's now or never for Miron Muslic's Plymouth Argyle side, sitting rock bottom of the Championship as the season nears its conclusion.

Only those with nerves of steel need submit to the idea of entertaining this latest weekend double, suggesting as it does leg one should be a home win for a side who only seven days ago lost 3-0 at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

That said, things move fast in football and on Wednesday night, perhaps sensing they had nothing to lose, seemingly doomed Argyle went on the attack in the 'Dockyard Derby', securing an unexpected win at bitter rivals Portsmouth.

Key to that victory was the return from injury of striker Ryan Hardie, back in the starting line-up and celebrating what could turn out to be the Pilgrims' vital second goal in a 2-1 victory which came after 11 minutes of nerve-shredding added time.

Those three points keep them snapping away behind the two sides directly above them, Luton and Derby, who also won in midweek to bolster their survival aspirations.

For John Eustace's Derby, this was actually a second consecutive victory following wins against promotion hopefuls Coventry and Blackburn.

Despite Tuesday's 2-0 win against the Sky Blues, Derby remain in the bottom three, but just a point behind the team sitting above them, Cardiff.

With that in mind, the calendar has thrown up a true six-pointer on Saturday afternoon, sending Derby to Plymouth for a game which both sides are absolutely desperate to win, given the loser is almost certainly heading back to League One.

Troublingly for Rams fans, while new man Eustace has found a way to get them firing at Pride Park, their away form remains a source of anguish.

With just one point taken from a possible 18 on the road in 2025 and just four goals scored in those six games, it all smacks of a team who hate leaving the comfort of home.

Overall, Derby have accrued just eight points from a possible 54 on their travels. Not good enough.

That's not to argue Argyle are great on their travels, wins at Brentford in the FA Cup and Pompey in the league notwithstanding, but some of their home form has been good, posting victories against Sunderland, Luton, Blackburn, Portsmouth, West Brom and Millwall.

Buoyed by a midweek win, with that man Hardie back again and scoring, and club captain Joe Edwards finally available again after four months out, this could be their cue to not only beat Derby, but in doing so massively boost their survival hopes by leapfrogging their opponents.

As ever, it's all about the price and at 21/10 with betting apps, I'll be risking Plymouth for leg one.

Bradford Vs Tranmere, Saturday 3pm

For leg two, in a division no-one seems to want to win, I'll be giving Bradford another chance as they try to strengthen their League Two title credentials with the visit of relegation-threatened Tranmere.

The Bantams cost this column a winner last Saturday when falling to a 1-0 defeat at Gillingham, but at 4/6 with football betting sites, they really should be beating opponents as weak as Tranmere.

Potential title winners against relegation likely lads, the team with the second-best defence in this league against the team with the second worst - sides separated by 20 places.

Dating all the way back to December 14, Bradford have won all of their last 10 home league games, winning by an aggregate score of 19-3!

Their price therefore looks generous, and boosts the Plymouth/Bradford double to 4/1 with Betfred.
