Horse Racing Acca For Saturday:
- Aintree 13.55 - Horaces Pearl
- Aintree 14.30 - Myretown
- Aintree 15.05 - Kitzbuhel
- Aintree 17.00 - Only By Night
Aintree 13:55 - Horaces Pearl
Lulamba will be all the rage for the second race on Aintree Grand National Day as he heads the market with betting apps for the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at 5/4.
The four-year-old receives a handy weight allowance from the field but he had a hard race at the Cheltenham Festival and the Triumph Hurdle form has to be questioned considering a 100/1 shot won the race.
Horaces Pearl was an impressive winner at this meeting last year where he beat the high-class Tripoli Flyer in a Grade 2 Bumper.
He has taken well to life over hurdles with back-to-back wins and with little miles on the clock for a seven-year-old he may be the big improver in the race.
Aintree 14:30 - Myretown
Myretown was not a horse on many people's radar this season but that all changed at the Cheltenham Festival where he won the Ultima Handicap Chase by a facile 11 lengths.
He was one of the best-backed horses all week and many thought connections would be tempted to step him up to Grade 1 company at this year's Grand National meeting.
They have opted to stick to the handicap route for now as he still might have plenty in hand and I expect him to complete the Cheltenham/Aintree double with a victory in the William Hill Handicap Chase.
Aintree 15:05 - Kitzbuhel
Teahupoo sets the standard in the staying hurdle division but he is a far better horse when fresh and he would prefer softer ground so at the prices he has to be taken on.
Willie Mullins and Paul Townend have been on fire at Aintree so far and the progressive Kitzbuhel can give them another winner in the Liverpool Hurdle on Saturday.
Kitzbuhel was a good horse in France and has shown plenty of promise in his first two runs in Ireland this season with a brace of easy wins.
The five-year-old has shown versatility in terms of ground and he looks like the most progressive horse in the race as he tackles the staying trip of three miles for the first time in his career.
Aintree 17:00 - Only By Night
Gavin Cromwell has enjoyed a fantastic season so far and he has a great chance of winning the Grand National as he saddles three of the top five in the betting for Saturday’s feature event.
An hour later he will be hoping Only By Night can make amends for his narrow Cheltenham Festival defeat and bounce back in the Maghull Novices’ Chase.
The Dan Skelton-trained L’Eau du Sud reopposes again but I see no reason why he will turn the form around with Only By Night in the penultimate race on Grand National Day.
