Next Crystal Palace Manager Odds: New Favourite To Replace Outgoing Oliver Glasner

Oliver Glasner will leave Crystal Palace at the end of the season and possibly sooner if he continues to criticise the club's hierarchy.
The Austrian announced his decision last Friday and 24 hours later - on the back of Marc Guehi's move to Manchester City - he launched an astonishing tirade against the club’s board, accusing them of “abandoning” him and the team.
The Eagles won their first major piece of silverware under Glasner last season when Eberechi Eze's goal against Manchester City secured the FA Cup, but the feel-good factor is starting to drain away at Selhurst Park.
Getafe manager Jose Bordalas was the favourite on betting sites last week to replace Glasner, closely followed by former England head coach Gareth Southgate, but there is a new frontrunner to take charge of the Premier League club.
Glasner is involved in a two-horse race to become the next Manchester United manager, although that depends on the success or otherwise of Michael Carrick's spell as interim head coach.
For now, Glasner remains in charge, but chairman Steve Parish is surely putting out the feelers to find his replacement for the start of next season.
So, who will it be? We take a look at the main candidates and consider whether they are a good fit for the Eagles.

Schmidt On Pole For Palace Role
Highly-experienced coach Roger Schmidt has won trophies in Europe and China, but he has yet to experience the rigours of the Premier League.
Interestingly, Glasner was his assistant when Schmidt led Salzburg to a league and cup double in Austria during the 2013/14 season, so there is an obvious connection with the current regime at Selhurst Park.
Schmidt advocated a high-pressing game while in Austria, tactics deployed by Glasner, so the Palace players would at least be familiar with what is expected of them should he become their new head coach.
The German twice ensured Champions League football in back-to-back years at Bayer Leverkusen only to be sacked in March 2017 after a 6-2 drubbing by Dortmund.

Cup successes with Beijing Guoan and PSV followed, but his greatest triumph came in Portugal where he steered Benfica to their first Primeira Liga title in four years.
He left the club in August 2024 and is currently a global football adviser for the J-League.
Schmidt was linked with Leeds last April when stories started to circulate that Daniel Farke could be sacked just days after securing promotion to the Premier League.
Nothing came of that, but Schmidt is now the 3/1 favourite with William Hill to take up his first appointment in England.
Bordalas Second In Line
Jose Bordalas has been cited as a leading contender for the Palace job in a number of recent reports, but is now second favourite at the same odds of 5/1.
Bordalas has a reputation in his native Spain for getting the most out of mid-ranking clubs with relatively small budgets, which is a big part of why he appeals to the Palace hierarchy.
Currently in his second spell at the helm of Getafe, Bordalas would doubtless be tempted by an offer from the Premier League.
He has never managed outside Spain, though, and that could be deemed a risk by the cautious Parish.

Southgate Has Palace Connections
Gareth Southgate (6/1) came through the Palace academy as a player and went on to make 191 appearances for the club, several of which were as captain.
Although he ultimately failed to get England over the line at a major tournament, reaching two European Championship finals was a good achievement given the Three Lions’ recent history.
However, Southgate has been out of club management since 2009 and he recently stated that he is not necessarily looking for another role in the dugout.
"I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football, which also had a higher purpose because it was my country. That’s going to be very hard to replicate [at club level]," he told the BBC in November.

Frank Could Be A Good Fit
Glasner is a strong contender to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job, but Thomas Frank (8/1) is the odds-on favourite in that market.
It is surely a matter of when, rather than if, the Tottenham boss is relieved of his duties in north London, although he bought himself some time with an impressive Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund.
Frank and Tottenham always looked like an awkward fit, but he would be a better match for Palace. Frank worked wonders at Brentford and, with the right backing, he could do the same at Selhurst Park.
Assuming he does leave Tottenham sooner rather than later, much will depend on whether the Dane wants a break from the game before taking his next job.
Lampard An Eagles Contender
Frank Lampard continues to enhance his reputation as manager of Coventry, who are six points clear at the top of the Championship and odds-on favourites to win the title.
The ex-England midfielder started his managerial career in the Championship, leading Derby to the play-off final in his debut season in 2017/18, but he struggled as a Premier League boss at Everton and his former club Chelsea.
Coventry are comfortably the top scorers in the second tier and a similar approach to attacking would go down well with some Palace supporters.
Lampard may welcome a return to his native London and another crack at the Premier League, so it is no surprise to see that he is 10/1 with a couple of betting apps to join the Eagles as Glasner's replacement.
Cooper Admired By Eagles
Parish and his partners at Selhurst Park are known to be long-term admirers of Steve Cooper. The Welshman was in the frame to replace Roy Hodgson in 2024 before Palace plumped for Glasner.
There is a decent chance the south Londoners could rekindle their interest now that Glasner is on his way out.
Cooper did a fine job at Nottingham Forest and plays the sort of counter-attacking football associated with Palace.
He is currently in charge of Brondby, though, and appears to be enjoying himself in Denmark, where Cooper is aiming to win a league title this season, which explains why his odds have drifted from 7/1 to 10/1 for the Palace job, the same price as Rayo Vallecano manager Inigo Perez.

Postecoglou Among Dark Horses
Ange Postecoglou (12/1) has managed two Premier League clubs in the last few months, but his reputation was damaged by a brief stint at Nottingham Forest earlier this season.
However, he won the Europa League with Tottenham and would back himself to triumph in the Conference League with Palace if given the chance.
Kieran McKenna (12/1) is unlikely to leave Ipswich while their promotion push is ongoing, but it is hard to see him staying at Portman Road should the Tractor Boys fall short.
Palace would not be the only top-flight club interested in his signature.
Brendan Rodgers is an experienced coach who did well at Leicester before leaving Celtic under a cloud earlier this season.
Rodgers is probably aiming to be back in the Premier League for his next role and is 12/1 to end up at Selhurst Park, although he recently took over at Saudi club Al-Qadsiah.
Former Ajax manager John Heitinga, currently assistant coach at Tottenham, having held the same position at both Liverpool and West Ham, is also available at 12/1.
