Next Derby County Manager Odds: Eustace Favourite To Replace Sacked Warne

Derby County sacked manager Paul Warne on Friday and betting sites have opened a market on who might succeed him.

The final straw was a 1-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United, which was their seventh consecutive Championship defeat and left the Rams mired in the relegation zone, three points adrift of safety.

Club owner David Clowes had consistently backed Warne despite just three wins since early October, but growing fan discontent forced his hand.

Clowes said: "No fan should ever forget his contribution in securing promotion to the Championship. I certainly won't.

"However, results in football dictate decisions and we felt that to give us the best chance of retaining our Championship status, the time was right to make a change."

Under caretaker manager Matt Hamshaw, the Rams rescued a point with an injury-time penalty from Jerry Yates in a 1-1 draw at Norwich.

Will Warne's replacement be announced before Derby host Oxford on Tuesday night?

We have looked at the latest odds from UK bookmakers to compile the list below, after which we will run the rule over the leading contenders.

Eustace Is Top Of Rams List

If Derby got their way, Blackburn boss John Eustace would be their next manager.

It's been reported that the Rams have made a formal approach to speak to Eustace about the vacancy.

Would Eustace swap the dugout for a club currently in the play-off places for one in the relegation zone?

And would Derby be happy to pay compensation to Rovers which is believed to be around £500,000?

We should get the answers for both these question in the coming days. Eustace is the 1/2 favourite for the Pride Park vacancy.

Carsley Second Favourite For Rams Job

Lee Carsley had emerged as the 6/4 favourite to be named Derby County manager last week, but his odds have drifted to 4/1

Carsley returned to his role as manager of England's Under 21s after taking on a caretaker role for the Three Lions team after Gareth Southgate stepped down following Euro 2024 and the start of Thomas Tuchel's reign began.

Described as a very intelligent coach, Carsley might fancy a return to club management and Derby would be wise to make contact with him in the coming days if Eustace turns them down.

Lowe Ready To Return

Ryan Lowe is waiting for his next managerial appointment following his departure from Preston earlier this season.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United was not the season opener he or the club had wished for, and Lowe left Deepdale.

Now might be the time for a return to club management and Derby could be just the ticket. Lowe is 8/1 from 3/1 to be the Rams' next permanent manager.

Gerrard Might Fancy Derby Job

Steven Gerrard is looking for his next role in management after the Liverpool legend’s 18-month stint at Al Ettifaq ended by mutual consent.

After guiding his side to a sixth-place finish last season, Gerrard oversaw a slump in the opening few months of this campaign and it’s not overly surprising that him and assistant Michael Beale left the club.

Having already appointed Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney, it's currently 14/1 with betting apps that Derby will go for another England legend to replace Warne.

It would be a bold call to appoint Gerrard with the Rams in this precarious position, but he did previously guide Aston Villa to safety in 2021/22 after replacing Dean Smith in November.

Could Cooper Work Miracles Again?

The last time Steve Cooper took charge of a club hovering around the relegation zone in the Championship, he got them promoted within months.

He is a natural candidate for any second-tier club seeking a new manager, although Cooper’s personal history means odds of 14/1 with football betting sites should be approached with caution.

The club that the Welshman guided into the Premier League was Nottingham Forest, Derby’s arch-rivals.

Leicester fans refused to accept Cooper due to his prior allegiances and that could also be the case at Pride Park.

On the other hand, perhaps Derby’s precarious situation would soften the supporters’ views.

Edwards Eager For New Role

Luton Town reluctantly parted ways with Rob Edwards after they failed to pull clear of the relegation zone

Things did not go well for the 42-year-old this season, but he previously led the Hatters to promotion to the Premier League, so it is no surprise to see him priced at 16/1 for the Derby job.

The key question is whether Edwards wants some time out of the game after a tenure at Luton that provided plenty of highs and lows.

If so, County may have to persuade him to jump straight back into another managerial role.

Other names in the frame include Richie Wellens (12/1), Ian Evatt (12/1), Sean Dyche (20/1) and Gary O'Neil (20/1).
