Next Fleetwood Town Manager Odds: Pete Wild Favourite For Role

Fleetwood Town are on the lookout for a new manager and the betting sites believe one man is a clear favourite for the job.

There was no Christmas cheer at Highbury Stadium as far as Charlie Adam is concerned.

The former Blackpool, Liverpool and Stoke City midfielder was given his marching orders over the weekend after he oversaw a run of just one win in Fleetwood’s last 11 league games.

That sequence has seen the Fishermen drop to 18th in the League Two standings.

They are now equidistant between the play-off places and the relegation zone, so their season can still go either way.

Wild Odds-On To Replace Adam

Pete Wild is the 1/2 favourite for the Fleetwood role, with football betting sites expecting him to be appointed soon.

The club considered making a move for Wild in September 2023 after Scott Brown was sacked, and the former Barrow boss is once again on Fleetwood’s radar.

The fact that Wild is currently out of work should make it easier for Fleetwood to agree terms with the 40-year-old. He did a good job at Barrow, who narrowly missed out on the play-offs under his guidance last term.

Fleetwood is not far from Barrow, so Wild is familiar with that part of the world - and oft-overlooked personal factors like that can make all the difference.

Nolan Could Move Back Into The Club Game

After spells in charge of Leyton Orient and Notts County, Kevin Nolan moved into the background in a coaching role alongside David Moyes at West Ham United.

He departed the London Stadium together with Moyes at the end of last season and currently works as the interim assistant head coach of England Under-20s.

The suggestions are that the former West Ham, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers midfielder wants to move back into the club game. He has been linked with the Bristol Rovers job and is also seen as a realistic candidate for Fleetwood, with the bookies pricing him up at 12/1.

Parkinson Another Contender

Phil Parkinson (of Altrincham rather than Wrexham) is a 16/1 shot to be the next manager of Fleetwood..

Parkinson has been with his current employers since 2017, during which time he has taken the club from the Northern Premier League up two divisions to the National League.

Altrincham’s rise has not stopped there.

At the time of writing they are ninth in the fifth tier, just one point outside the play-off places. Altrincham are targeting promotion to the Football League, but they risk having their manager poached by a Fleetwood team that have not yet given up hope of reaching the play-offs in League Two.

Richardson Still Out Of Work

Leam Richardson is another manager currently out of work who could take over at Highbury Stadium.

Available at odds of 16/1, Richardson’s last job was with Rotherham United, who sacked him in April after the club’s relegation to League One was confirmed.

Getting demoted from the Championship with Rotherham is hardly a huge failing, so Richardson should be back in work soon.

The former Wigan Athletic boss could return to the northwest of England with Fleetwood, although he may be holding out for a job in League One.

Schumacher May Have His Sights Set Higher

Steven Schumacher was sent packing by Stoke City earlier in the campaign, so he is also available as the new year approaches. Prior to managing in the Potteries, Schumacher was calling the shots at fellow Championship club Plymouth Argyle.

That means it will be tough for clubs like Fleetwood, who are two divisions below the second tier, to attract Schumacher.

The 40-year-old might consider an offer from an ambitious outfit in League One, but he is highly unlikely to go all the way down to League Two having managed in the Championship this term. Even so, Schumacher can be backed at 20/1 to be Fleetwood’s next boss.

Other names in the frame include former Swindon boss Mark Kennedy (20/1), Chris Millington (20/1) and John Coleman (25/1
