Next Middlesbrough Manager Odds: Rob Edwards Shortens For Riverside Role

Rob Edwards is now the odds-on favourite to become Middlesbrough's next manager on the best betting sites.
Boro are looking to replace Michael Carrick, who was sacked shortly after the club missed out on the Championship play-offs.
Edwards moved to the top of the market last week and has since strengthened his position as the leading contender to fill the vacancy at the Riverside.
However, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard remains hot on his tail, so who will be in charge for the start of next season?
We take a look at the main contenders and the latest next Middlesbrough manager odds.
Ex-Hatters Boss Edwards Heads Field
Edwards knows he has a point to prove after guiding Luton to the Premier League, as well as their subsequent relegation back to the Championship.
Edwards was sacked midway through the 2024/25 campaign after a poor start to the season ultimately ended in a second successive relegation.
Boro will hope that with better resources available, Edwards can work his magic again and return Boro to the top flight.
Edwards has been linked with a number of other positions, but his odds have been cut from 13/8 to 1/2 on football betting sites and he appears to be in the driving seat for the Middlesbrough job.

Gerrard Could Replace Former England Team-Mate
Carrick was part of an England midfield that included Steven Gerrard, who has been cut from 5/1 to 11/8 to replace his former colleague.
Gerrard has been linked with plenty of jobs since his departure from Al-Ettifaq was confirmed in January, but Boro might be the most attractive offer right now.
Last season's squad missed the play-offs by four points, so they should be well placed to mount another charge next season.
Cooper On The Drift
Former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper was the favourite last week, but his odds have lengthened substantially from 7/4 to 5/1 on betting apps to replace Carrick.
Cooper needs to rebuild his reputation after a disappointing spell at Leicester, which lasted just 12 games.
The Welshman has a good record in the Championship, remarkably leading Forest from the bottom of the table to promotion via the play-offs in 2022.
Given his past achievements, any second-tier side looking for a new manager would be foolish not to consider him.
Dyche May Have Options
Sean Dyche had offers from Championship clubs when he was last out of work, but the ex-Burnley boss stood firm and waited for an approach from a Premier League outfit.
He did well in his first 18 months at the helm of Everton, but Dyche did not cover himself in glory last season, and the club improved significantly after the appointment of David Moyes.
Dyche kept Burnley in the top tier for several years, and cannot be ruled out to take the reins at a struggling club at some point next season.
The key question is whether Dyche would consider taking a job in the Championship again. He was 5/1 last week, but is now 6/1, having been installed as the early favourite to replace Chris Wilder should he be sacked by Sheffield United.
O'Neil A Fan Favourite
Gary O'Neil would be a popular appointment with fans and his odds were halved from 20/1 to 10/1 to take over at Middlesbrough following Carrick's departure, but they remain steady at 12/1.
O'Neil impressed during his spells in charge of Bournemouth and Wolves, before being sacked by the latter last December with the club in 19th place in the Premier League.
Having made over 100 appearances for Middlesbrough during his playing career, it would be no surprise to see him take the helm at the Riverside.
Marti Cifuentes, who remains on gardening leave at QPR, is also 12/1, down from 20/1 last week.
Title-Winning Priske Fades
Former Feyenoord manager Brian Priske has been linked with several vacancies in England and Scotland, including Notts County, and he was one of the favourites for the Boro job.
Priske won the Danish Superliga with Midtjylland and later led Sparta Prague to back-to-back titles in the Czech top flight, so his glittering CV would certainly appeal to Gibson.
The Dane took the reins at Feyenoord at the start of the season and although he left the club by mutual consent in February, he still managed to lead the Dutch outfit to the knockout stage of the Champions League following an impressive 3-0 win against Bayern Munich.
Priske will get a new job soon, but his odds have drifted from 12/1 to 20/1 which suggests it won't be at Middlesbrough.
Schmidt And Mousinho In The Conversation
Roger Schmidt has won top-flight trophies in Austria and Portugal, but remains out of work since being sacked by Benfica last August.
The experienced German won the Austrian Bundesliga with RB Salzburg, the Primeira Liga with Benfica and the Dutch Cup with PSV, so he knows how to win silverware and is 20/1 for the Middlesbrough job, the same price as John Mousinho.
The former Wycombe, Burton and Oxford defender kept Portsmouth in the Championship last season against the odds.
Elsewhere, Strasbourg's former Hull City boss Liam Rosenior (25/1), Chelsea legend John Terry (25/1) and ex-Plymouth manager Wayne Rooney (33/1) are all considered outsiders for the Boro job.
Ex-Leeds manager Jesse Marsch might not be in a hurry to take a job in club management, but he is currently 33/1 to take the reins at Boro.
Currently managing the Canadian national team, Marsch is unlikely to step down before next summer’s World Cup - a tournament Canada is co-hosting.
