Next Notts County Manager Odds: New Favourite Emerges In Volatile Magpies Market

Notts County's owners are thought to be closing in on their a new manager and betting sites have placed another name at the top of the market.
Luke Williams was the odds-on favourite on Wednesday for a romantic return to Meadow Lane, but 24 hours later Steffen Hojer is at the head of the queue to replace Stuart Maynard.
Although the play-offs offered Maynard and his squad a final opportunity to realise their promotion ambitions, they bowed out with a whimper to AFC Wimbledon in the semi-final.
The nature of that defeat was the final straw for Danish owners Christoffer and Alexander Reedtz, with Maynard departing after just five months in charge and only one win from the last eight matches.
Promotion to League One remains the clear objective for Notts County, who have already made four summer signings under head of football Roberto Gagliardi despite being managerless.
The odds for the Meadow Lane job continue to fluctuate, so here we take a look at the contenders and the latest next Notts County manager odds.
Dane Latest Favourite For County Role
Hojer has gradually been working his way up the list of contenders to fill the Magpies vacancy and the Dane is now the 2/7 favourite with football betting sites.
Having cut his teeth in the Danish league with Viborg FF, he is currently at the European U21 Championship as head coach of the Denmark team.
His modern coaching style aligns with the Reedtz brothers’ long-term vision, while his fresh perspective could be just what the Magpies need for a sustained promotion push next season.

Williams Still In The Picture
Although no longer favourite, there is still a good chance of a return to the club for Williams, who led Notts County into the Football League via the play-offs two years ago.
The 44-year-old former Swindon boss left Meadow Lane to rejoin Swansea, where he had previously been assistant to Russell Martin.
After 13 months in south Wales, Williams was sacked following a run of seven defeats in nine Championship games.
The fans would surely welcome back Williams with open arms, although his odds have drifted from 2/5 to 3/1.
Alves Continues To Drift
Joao Alves has been one of many favourites to become the next Notts County manager, but his odds have lengthened once again.
Alves has been with the League Two club in various roles for more than four years and it looked at one point as if he was going to land the top job.
Having started as a tactical analyst, the Portuguese was made assistant in July 2022 and promoted to first-team coach when Maynard arrived from Wealdstone earlier this year.
Alves lacks head coach experience but knows the club inside out and could be a popular pick with fans.
The owners would not need to look far for Maynard's replacement, but Alves' odds have drifted from 6/1 to 8/1 on betting apps.
Evatt Seeks New Challenge
Ian Evatt left Bolton by mutual consent in January, seeking a break, but now feels ready to return and is looking for his next challenge.
The former Blackpool and Chesterfield player earned promotion with Barrow in the National League and with Bolton in League Two.
He led Bolton to successive League One play-off campaigns, losing the 2023/24 final to Oxford.
Though he may feel he is above League Two, Notts County’s history and ambitious ownership could tempt him, and he is currently 20/1 in the market.
Richardson Ready For Return
Leam Richardson’s stint at Rotherham was disappointing, with just two wins in 24 games.
His time at Wigan, however, showcased his ability. After working as Paul Cook’s assistant and helping secure promotion in 2017/18, he took charge following administration and a series of managerial departures.
Appointed in April 2021, he avoided relegation and went on to win the League One title, only to be sacked 16 days after signing a new deal.
Out of work for over a year, his Notts County odds have drifted massively from 2/5 to 25/1.
Buckingham An Outside Chance
Des Buckingham guided Oxford to Championship promotion via the 2023/24 play-offs but was dismissed in December after 13 months in charge.
Many fans felt the former New Zealand U23 coach wasn’t given sufficient time to recover from a poor Championship run.
He now finds himself at 25/1 to be the next man in charge of the Magpies, having once been 2/1.
Wilshere In Head Coach Hunt
Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is also 25/1.
Wilshere is looking for a head coach role having taken the reins at Norwich for the final two games of the season.
The City hierarchy decided to appoint Bristol City's Liam Manning as their new manager instead which left Wilshere seeking a new role away from Carrow Road.
He had been the favourite for the Plymouth job only to lose out to Tom Cleverley, and his odds on landing the Magpies job have now drifted from 20/1.
Hinshelwood A Dark Horse
There is a long list of names priced at 33/1, including York manager Adam Hinshelwood, whose side missed out on promotion to the Football League following defeat to Oldham in the semi-finals of the National League play-offs.
Nottingham-born Tom Shaw, assistant head coach to Michael Skubala at Lincoln, is also 33/1, the same price as Chris Wilder, who was sacked as Sheffield United manager earlier this week.
Wilder was in his second spell as Blades boss, having secured promotion to the Premier League in the 2018/19 campaign, but he paid the price for losing to Sunderland in this season's Championship play-off final.
