Next Peterborough Manager Odds: Williams Set To Replace Ferguson

Peterborough United are on the lookout for a new manager after parting ways with Darren Ferguson, and there is one clear favourite with betting sites for the role.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony acted decisively at the weekend after the club dropped to the foot of the League One table.
Ferguson’s fourth spell in charge of Peterborough is now over, but who will be next through the door at London Road?
Luke Williams heads the market with most football betting sites, but there would be no surprise if there were twists and turns ahead.
Peterborough will want to hire a new man quickly without rushing proceedings. This is a delicate balancing act for MacAnthony and his colleagues.
In this article, we analyse some of the contenders to take over from Ferguson, starting with the clear favourite.
Williams Strong Favourite
Williams (1/6) is seen as the likeliest successor to Ferguson as things stand.
Reports in the local media suggest he is Peterborough’s preferred candidate, and the fact that Williams is currently out of work makes a deal easier.
The 44-year-old did a fine job at Notts County, and although he struggled to make the same sort of impact at Swansea City, Williams remains well regarded within coaching circles.
Steve Evans (5/1) could be a fallback option if Peterborough are unable to agree terms with their first choice.
The Scot has managed Posh before and led the team for most of 2018. He is also out of work after leaving Rotherham in March.
Next Peterborough Manager Odds:
Manager | Odds | Probability |
Luke Williams | 1/6 | 85.7% |
Steve Evans | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Matt Bloomfield | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Russell Martin | 8/1 | 11.1% |
John Brady | 20/1 | 4.8% |
Steve Bruce | 25/1 | 3.8% |
Damien Duff | 25/1 | 3.8% |
Mark Robins | 25/1 | 3.8% |
Richie Wellens | 25/1 | 3.8% |
Gary O'Neil | 25/1 | 3.8% |
Martin And Bloomfield In The Mix
Russell Martin has had a tough couple of years. The former defender led Southampton to promotion via the play-offs in 2023/24, but he and his team failed to make the step up the following season, and he was dismissed when it became clear that relegation beckoned.
He failed even more spectacularly at Rangers, lasting for just 17 games at Ibrox, but showed coaching acumen before last term.
Going from Rangers to the bottom of League One would be a dramatic drop, however, and he is 8/1 to take the job.
Matt Bloomfield (5/1) would have fewer qualms about taking over at Peterborough, but the jury is out on the Wycombe Wanderers legend after his disappointing stint at Luton Town.

Brady Or Bruce To The Rescue?
Jon Brady (20/1) has been away from the dugout for almost a year after leaving Northampton Town in December 2024.
He did a good job overall with the Cobblers, and the club’s supporters were surprised by his decision to step down.
Having now been out of the game for approaching 12 months, Brady is probably ready to get back into management. He could be an option for Peterborough, whose main target right now is to get out of the bottom four.
According to betting apps, Steve Bruce (25/1) is another dark horse.
He was unable to prevent Blackpool’s slide into the bottom two of League One, a decline that resulted in his sacking earlier this month.
Bruce has vast experience and would command instant respect within the Peterborough dressing room.

Duff Would Be Brave Choice
Damien Duff (25/1) had a bright start to life in management at Shelbourne, winning the League of Ireland in 2024 before departing the club earlier this year.
The former Republic of Ireland international’s next job is likely to come in England, and MacAnthony may be tempted to make an offer to his fellow countryman.
Elsewhere, Richie Wellens (25/1) is another contender to replace Ferguson, but Peterborough may struggle to persuade him to take over.
Wellens is currently the manager of Leyton Orient, a fellow League One club who are 10 places above Posh at the time of writing.
A play-off push is possible for Orient this term, so Wellens may baulk at the idea of getting involved in a relegation battle.

O’Neil Heads List Of Outsiders
Gary O’Neil (25/1) is currently unemployed but has spoken publicly of his desire to return to management.
Having led Bournemouth and Wolves in his last two jobs, he will feel he deserves a shot in the upper echelons of the Championship at the very least.
It is hard to see him dropping into League One at this juncture. Mark Robins (25/1) is also unlikely to fancy a League One relegation fight.
