Next Tranmere Manager Odds: Lowe Favourite Following Wild Departure

Tranmere are looking for a new manager after confirming that Pete Wild has left the club following the end of his short-term contract.

Wild arrived at Prenton Park in March following the sacking of Andy Crosby, after a poor run of form saw Tranmere drop towards the relegation zone.

The former Oldham, Barrow and Fleetwood boss was appointed as interim manager with the aim of keeping Tranmere in League Two, which was achieved on the final day of the campaign.

However, Rovers saw little upturn in form, with Wild registering just one win and three draws in 10 games.

They failed to score in his first five matches and eventually finished 21st, just two points above the drop zone.

In a short statement, Rovers confirmed that Wild's assistant Adam Temple would also be leaving. It read: "Pete and Adam achieved their aim of keeping the club in League Two.

"We thank them both for their hard work and wish them the best of luck for the future."

We've looked at the odds provided by the best betting sites and assessed the main candidates in the running to be the next permanent Tranmere manager.

Prodigal Son Lowe Favourite For Role

The bookmakers have installed Ryan Lowe as the 7/5 favourite to be the next man in charge at Prenton Park.

The former Tranmere striker has been linked with the role seemingly every time it has become available, missing out to Andy Crosby last time around.

That said, Lowe's recent record does not make for comfortable reading.

His appointment as Wigan Athletic boss in March 2025 lasted less than a year, culminating in a humiliating 6-1 defeat at Peterborough that left the Latics in the relegation places.

Lowe is a manager with genuine lower-league credentials and it should be said that his work at Plymouth and Bury was admirable.

However, arriving at Tranmere following back-to-back failures will mean he has a great deal of ground to make up before the fans are won over.

Sadler Set For Tranmere Hot Seat?

Mat Sadler is the kind of appointment that might not set pulses racing but he would almost certainly steady the ship, and he is 7/4 for the Tranmere job.

The former Birmingham City and Walsall defender has spent the past three years building a solid reputation as a thoughtful, measured manager at League Two level, overseeing 161 games at Walsall and winning 67 of them.

His departure from the club was confirmed in March, a collapse from four points clear at the top of the table to 11th place proving to be the final straw.

Sadler has spoken at length about the importance of culture, environment and developing players who genuinely want to improve, and those are precisely the qualities a club like Tranmere needs right now.

McNulty Has Been Turning Heads

Jimmy McNulty is arguably the most intriguing name on the list - a manager who has been quietly going about his business at Rochdale with real distinction.

McNulty's transformation of Rochdale has been nothing short of remarkable, culminating in a National League Play-off final victory over Boreham Wood at Wembley that has taken the club back into League Two.

McNulty had a loan spell at Tranmere in October 2013 and will need no introduction to the club's traditions or their supporters' expectations.

At 2/1, this might just be the value pick of all the candidates.

Williamson Seeking Redemption

Mike Williamson made his name at Gateshead, guiding the club to the National League North title in 2021/22 with 94 points and 99 goals before being named Manager of the Season.

He then led MK Dons to a fourth-place League Two finish, earning considerable plaudits in the process.

However, his stock has fallen sharply since. A move to Carlisle United ended after just five wins from 25 games in four and a half months, before a coaching role at Rangers under Russell Martin saw both men shown the door in October 2025 after a calamitous start to the season.

At 3/1 with betting apps, a Tranmere appointment could provide him with the clean slate he needs to remind everyone of what he is capable of.

Lindsey Understands League Two

Scott Lindsey (3/1) arguably boasts the most impressive achievement of any name in contention.

Guiding Crawley Town to promotion via the League Two play-offs in 2024 was a genuine managerial masterclass.

Unfortunately, what came after was a second spell at Crawley that ended in ignominy, 10 matches without a win, one point above the relegation zone resulting in his dismissal in March.

However, it would be short-sighted to judge Lindsey solely on that difficult second tenure.

He has proved that he is a manager who has hauled struggling clubs away from the drop before, who understands League Two football, and who has the tactical flexibility to adapt his approach depending on what is in front of him.

Hinshelwood Heads Best Of The Rest

Adam Hinshelwood (4/1) has just won the National League South title with Worthing and will be in demand.

Michael Appleton (5/1) is available following his Shrewsbury Town dismissal in January and brings Championship-level experience.

Lee Grant (7/1) has been out of work since leaving Huddersfield in January and would be a wildcard choice.

Should Leighton Baines (8/1) leave his role on the Everton coaching staff, a managerial job across the water could be the ideal platform to build a career.

Kevin Nolan (10/1) was sacked by Northampton in March, while Steve Bruce (12/1) - without a club since Blackpool dismissed him in October 2025 - would be the most high-profile appointment of the lot.
