Next Tranmere Manager Odds: Wild Favourite For Prenton Park Job

Tranmere Rovers have parted ways with Andy Crosby following a dramatic collapse in form that has seen the club lose 10 of their last 11 League Two fixtures.

A 3-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Newport County was the final straw, leaving Rovers sitting in 19th place, just eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Crosby had been appointed on a permanent basis in May 2025 after stepping in as caretaker to replace Nigel Adkins, but the wheels have well and truly come off at Prenton Park.

The search for his successor is now underway, and betting sites have already started pricing up the contenders.

Wild Heads The Market

Pete Wild was dismissed by Fleetwood Town at the end of January after a run of six defeats in seven games.

The 41-year-old took charge at Highbury in December 2024 following Charlie Adam's exit and initially showed promise before a difficult festive run derailed his tenure.

Prior to Fleetwood, he went agonisingly close to delivering a play-off place for Barrow in the 2024/25 season, only to lose his job when the Bluebirds narrowly missed out.

Tranmere would represent an opportunity for Wild to rebuild his reputation and he is the 5/4 favourite for the job on betting apps.

Leighton Baines Attracting Interest

The former Everton and England left-back lacks senior management experience but he has been widely praised for his coaching work with the Toffees since retiring from playing in 2020.

Baines (6/4) took charge of Everton's U18s in 2022 before being elevated to David Moyes' first-team backroom staff, where his innovative methods and attention to detail have earned him significant respect.

He also stepped in to lead the senior side on an interim basis following Sean Dyche’s dismissal in January 2025.

Whether he intends to pursue a career in management remains unclear, but the Tranmere job could prove an appealing opportunity and the kind of appointment that would spark excitement among a disgruntled fanbase.

Parkinson Has The Knowledge

Andy Parkinson (7/4) knows the Prenton Park club inside out.

The former Tranmere winger served as Crosby’s assistant while he was in charge, giving him a strong understanding of the current squad.

Having previously played for Rovers, he has a good connection to the club and the supporters.

That relationship, combined with his knowledge of the current set-up, could make him a sensible and low-risk choice for the Rovers board.

Lowe Has Point To Prove

Ryan Lowe also has history with Tranmere as a former player and was reportedly in contention for the manager's role before Crosby was handed the job last year.

However, his stock has fallen sharply following a disastrous eight-month spell at Wigan Athletic, where he was sacked with the Latics dangerously close to the relegation places.

While the Tranmere connection is appealing, Lowe would have something to prove if he were appointed Rovers boss and is currently 2/1 to get the opportunity.

Former Salford Boss Seeking Return

Neil Wood (3/1), once praised by Sir Alex Ferguson for his work developing players at Manchester United, has been out of league management since leaving Salford City in December 2023.

The 42-year-old guided the Ammies to the play-offs in his first season at the Peninsula Stadium, but a downturn in results during his second campaign led to his departure.

Since then, Wood has remained active in coaching, working with Dwight Yorke as part of the Trinidad & Tobago set-up, though a League Two opportunity could tempt him back to England.

Fergie Time On Merseyside?

Mike Williamson has been out of work since leaving Carlisle United but previously impressed at MK Dons and Gateshead, and is 5/1 to get the call from Tranmere.

Darrell Clarke (8/1) also has proven lower-league success, guiding Bristol Rovers to back-to-back promotions and winning the 2022 League Two play-offs with Port Vale. He is available after leaving the Memorial Ground in January.

Darren Ferguson (10/1) could also be considered after leaving Peterborough United last October.

The experienced boss enjoyed multiple successful spells with Posh and has a strong track record in the EFL.
