Next Tranmere Manager Odds: Caretaker Crosby Keen To Make Job His Own

Andy Crosby remains in charge of Tranmere following the departure of Nigel Adkins at the end of February.

Adkins had been in charge since November 2023, but just after a 1-0 defeat at home to Accrington the club announced that he had departed  by mutual consent following a run of 10 games without a win.

Caretaker boss Crosby is now in pole position to be the next permanent manger if he can do a good job in the coming weeks with Rovers battling to avoid relegation from League Two.

Betting sites will continue to update their odds on Tranmere's next manager.

Crosby Answers Rovers' Call

Rovers have confirmed that coach Andy Crosby will take charge of first team affairs for the time being, and he can be backed at 11/8 to be the next permanent manager.

The 51-year-old former Darlington, Chester, Brighton and Scunthorpe defender joined the backroom staff at Scunthorpe United alongside Adkins following his retirement as a player.

He would follow Adkins to Southampton, Reading, Sheffield United and Hull City and also worked as caretaker manager for the Northern Ireland U21 side.

With Rovers in the thick of a relegation scrap at the foot of League Two, Crosby has the perfect opportunity to make a case for getting the job on a full-time basis.

Baines To Swap Goodison Park For Prenton Park?

Leighton Baines was in charge of Everton, along with Seamus Coleman, immediately after Sean Dyche was sacked hours before their FA Cup third-round tie with Peterborough.

The Toffees won that game 2-0 and a career as a manager might be in Baines' future. However, with Everton about to move to a new stadium next season, he might not be in any rush to be the main man.

Nevertheless, Baines is 6/1 to be Tranmere's next manager.

Appleton Eyeing Return

Michael Appleton has been out of work since leaving Charlton in January 2024 and is 6/1 to revive what was once seen as a very promising coaching career by filling the vacancy at Prenton Park.

Appleton had a tough introduction to management at financially-hit Portsmouth, followed by short stints at Blackpool and Blackburn.

After taking Oxford into League One, he had spells at West Brom and Leicester City before taking Lincoln to the 2022 League One play-off final, followed by another stint at Blackpool.

Lowe Next On The Tranmere Market

Ryan Lowe is waiting for his next managerial appointment after leaving Preston abruptly earlier this season.

A 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United was not the season opener he or the club had wished for, and Lowe left Deepdale shortly after the game saying that he'd had had an "unbelievable two-and-a-half years" and that he was leaving the club in a good place.

Now might be the time for a return to club management for the former Bury and Plymouth boss, and Lowe is also 6/1 to be the next man in charge at Prenton Park.

Danns The Man?

Following a 20-year playing career at the likes of Crystal Palace and Leicester, Neil Danns (12/1) made the transition into coaching and management after hanging up his boots.

In 2020 he was appointed as player-manager of Macclesfield and led them to promotion to the Northern Premier League as champions before becoming assistant manager at Tranmere in May 2023.

The former Rovers midfielder worked with Adkins for the 15 months he was in the Prenton Park dugout, and took the helm when the former boss was given a touchline ban in January 2024.

Richardson Keen To Prove A Point

Most of Leam Richardson's management experience has come in League One or above, but reviving a club the size of the Tranmere could be appealing to him.

He won the League One championship with Wigan in 2022, but just 16 days after signing a new contract with the Latics, was sacked after six defeats in seven games saw them drop into the relegation zone.

Richardson returned to the Championship with bottom-of-the-table Rotherham in December 2023, but was unable to save them from the drop.

The 45-year-old is 20/1 with betting apps for the Rovers role.

Hurst Heads Outsiders List

Paul Hurst will be looking for his next role in management after being dismissed by Shrewsbury in November and is 25/1 in the next Tranmere manager market.

Jon Brady is currently for hire having stepped-down as Northampton manager back in December and can also be backed at 25/1.

Elsewhere, ex-Swindon manager Mark Kennedy and Ian Evatt, recently sacked by Bolton, are the same price according to BetVictor.
