Next Wigan Athletic Manager Odds: Lowe The Early Favourite

Wigan boss Shaun Maloney became the 38th manager in England's top four leagues to lose their job since the start of the 2024/25 season.
Maloney and the Latics parted company a day after a 2-1 defeat at home to Reading, in a game they led 1-0 with 20 minutes to play.
Glenn Whelan will be the interim manager, but the club's search for a new manager begins with Wigan 15th in League One, just six points clear of the relegation zone.
Football betting sites will continue to update their odds until the club announce who Maloney's full-time replacement will be.
We'll take a close look at the candidates at the top of the market for the DW Stadium job.
Lowe Is Favourite To Replace Maloney
It seems like Ryan Lowe has been linked with every managerial vacancy in the EFL since he became a free agent in August.
Lowe began the campaign as Preston manager, but he was the first managerial casualty of the season, when he was relieved of his duties following a 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United.
The 46-year-old, who made over 625 league appearances in his playing career, was manager of Bury before a spell at Plymouth, so he will know the area better than most.
Lowe is the early 5/4 favourite for the Wigan job.
Manager | Odds | Betting Site |
Ryan Lowe | 5/4 | |
Ian Evatt | 6/1 | |
Paul Warne | 8/1 | |
Glenn Whelan | 10/1 | |
Michael Appleton | 16/1 | |
Luke Williams | 16/1 | |
Jon Brady | 16/1 | |
Leam Richardson | 16/1 | |
Steven Gerrard | 25/1 | |
Steve Cooper | 25/1 |
Evatt Knows The League Very Well
If Wigan want a manager who knows League One well, then they should call Ian Evatt.
Evatt was most recently in charge of Bolton, who lost 2-0 at home to Wigan in December, just a month before his exit from the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
During his time at Bolton, Evatt won 130 of his 261 games in charge and he is 6/1 to be named Wigan's next permanent boss on the leading betting sites.
Warne Would Welcome Wigan Offer
Former Rotherham and Derby manager Paul Warne would be a good choice for Wigan.
He has four promotions from League One on his CV, three with the Millers and most recently with Derby, who finished second last season.
However, after a decent start to life in the Championship, the Rams struggled and Warne was replaced by John Eustace, who has lost his first three games in charge to nil.
Warne should be on the shortlist for any League One side looking to move up a division and he is 8/1 to be Wigan's next boss.
Whelan In The Driving Seat For Now
Glenn Whelan was named interim manager following the departure of Maloney.
Whelan, who spent much of his playing career in Stoke's midfield, was an assistant to Maloney at the DW Stadium.
The 41-year-old will pick his first team for the trip to out-of-form Mansfield on Tuesday evening. A win at Field Mill will see Whelan's current odds of 10/1 on betting apps shorten.
Appleton Among The Others In Contention
It's been over a year since we last saw Michael Appleton in a dugout, but could we see him return to management shortly?
Appleton, who has managed Lincoln, Blackpool and Charlton in League One, is 16/1 to be Wigan's next manager.
Also in the frame are Luke Williams (16/1), Jon Brady (16/1) and Leam Richardson (16/1). Steven Gerrard and Steve Cooper are dark horses at 25/1.
