Next Wrexham Manager Odds: Has Parkinson Taken Red Dragons As Far As He Can?

Pressure is mounting on Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson after a poor start to life in the Championship, with Sean Dyche the early favourite to replace him on football betting sites.

Parkinson has overseen three successive promotions, taking the north Wales club from the National League to the second tier of English football.

Despite that success, his position is under scrutiny as Wrexham sit 21st in the Championship table with just four points from their opening five matches.

Some will argue it is too soon to question his future, particularly given the scale of the step up from League One.

However, the club’s Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have invested heavily in the squad.

A summer outlay of £33million brought 13 new signings, and expectations among fans at the Racecourse Ground are now higher than ever.

We take a look at the latest next Wrexham manager odds should they decide to make a change.

Dyche Can Do A Job

Hollywood and football may make for a glamorous partnership, but Dyche’s managerial style has always been sprinkled with pragmatism rather than stardust.

The former Burnley and Everton boss is renowned for organisation, resilience and a no-nonsense approach that prioritises results above all else.

While Dyche may not deliver the kind of free-flowing football that gets supporters off their seats, he has a proven record of keeping teams competitive on limited resources.

That track record may appeal to Reynolds and McElhenney, and Dyche is the current 5/4 favourite with betting sites to be the next Wrexham manager.

Carrick A Serious Contender

Michael Carrick is seen as one of the most promising young managers around and could emerge as a genuine contender for the Wrexham post if it becomes available.

The former Manchester United midfielder impressed at Middlesbrough, taking them to the Championship play-offs in his first season and winning praise for his tactical style.

He left the club after narrowly missing out on promotion last season, but his pedigree and attacking philosophy could appeal to Wrexham’s ambitious owners as they plan their next move.

Carrick is 7/4 second favourite to be the next Wrexham manager.

Rohl Retains Strong Reputation

Danny Rohl boosted his reputation last season by guiding Sheffield Wednesday to 12th in the Championship, despite severe financial problems at the club.

He left in the summer with Wednesday still in disarray, but his standing in the game has only grown since.

The German coach has already been linked with a number of Championship vacancies and was briefly on Leicester City’s shortlist before talks collapsed.

With the club's owners bankrolling ambition, the chance of a promotion push in the future could lure him, and he is 3/1 in the next Wrexham manager odds.

Ruud Could Be A Risk

Ruud van Nistelrooy endured a torrid spell in charge of Leicester City during the 2024/25 season, which ultimately ended in relegation.

The former Manchester United striker managed just five wins in 27 matches, while suffering 19 defeats.

His tenure also included an unwanted record, as the Foxes went 18 league games without scoring at home - the worst run in the club’s 141-year history.

Any move to appoint Van Nistelrooy at Wrexham could be viewed as a gamble rather than a safe bet, though he is available at 4/1 on betting apps.

O’Neil Needs A Chance

Gary O’Neil’s managerial career has already seen its share of ups and downs. He was dismissed after a mixed spell at Bournemouth before taking charge at Wolves in the summer of 2023.

His first season at Molineux brought a 14th-place finish, but results faltered the following year.

By December 2024, with Wolves sitting 19th in the Premier League and four points from safety, he was sacked again.

A move to the Championship with Wrexham could give him the ideal opportunity to show what he can do, and he is 5/1 for the job.

Jury Still Out On Selles

Ruben Selles (6/1) is another name linked, though his prospects may not inspire Wrexham fans after he was dismissed by Sheffield United having lost all five of their opening games this season.

The Spaniard’s managerial career has produced mixed outcomes across a number of clubs.

At Reading, he guided the team to promotion and a club-record points tally in League One.

However, his time at Southampton ended in relegation, while his spell at Hull City was cut short by another dismissal.

Gerrard Ready For Return

Steven Gerrard (7/1) continues to look for his next role following his spell in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq.

The former Rangers and Aston Villa manager has been out of work since leaving the Middle East earlier this year.

For Gerrard, Wrexham could offer the ideal stage to prove he can convert his leadership qualities into managerial achievement.

Other names in the frame include the recently sacked Nuno Espirito Santo (8/1), former England boss Gareth Southgate (10/1) and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (12/1), who was recently dismissed by Besiktas.
