Raheem Sterling has been the subject of strong transfer speculation in recent days, and betting sites believe he could well be on the move before the transfer window closes at the start of September.

The England international admitted last season that he was considering a switch away from the Eithad Stadium.

Sterling has had a hugely successful seven-year spell at Manchester City, with whom he has won four Premier League titles, four League Cups and an FA Cup.

He has established himself as one of the most sought after forwards in world football and, at 27 years of age, he still has plenty left to offer at the highest level.

Sterling may have decided that he is ready for a new challenge, although he would surely only leave City - arguably the best team in Europe, despite their Champions League shortcomings - for the right destination.

With one year left on his contract in Manchester, the winger is in a strong position to determine his own future.

So, where will Sterling be plying his trade once the summer transfer window has slammed shut? Let’s take a look at the options.

Chelsea In Pole Position To Land Sterling This Summer

Chelsea have emerged as the 4/6 favourites on football betting sites to sign Sterling this summer.

Sky Sports reported on Monday that the Blues are “confident” of landing the former Liverpool man, who is said to be keen to move to Stamford Bridge. Sterling has already played for two of the biggest clubs in England and he could be about to join a third.

It is not hard to see why Thomas Tuchel wants to bring the England international to the club.

Chelsea scored 23 fewer goals than Manchester City last term. If they want to mount a sustained title challenge next season, Tuchel’s side will need to become more prolific.

Sterling does not always look like the most natural of finishers, but the numbers speak for themselves: in the last five seasons he has found the back of the net 78 times in the Premier League alone.

That, plus 34 assists, makes him one of the most effective attackers around, and a player that Chelsea hope to steal away from one of their main domestic rivals.

Man City Will Hope To Persuade Him To Stay

City seem ready to cash in on Sterling rather than risk losing him for free next summer.

It is a similar approach Liverpool are taking to Sadio Mane’s comparable situation, with the Senegal international poised to join Bayern Munich before the start of the season.

Yet in both cases, the selling club will only be willing to sanction the player’s departure if their asking price is met.

The aforementioned story by Sky Sports states that the fee for Sterling is £60m.

If Chelsea do not offer such a sum to City, they could pull the plug on any deal. That is why the Premier League champions are available at 10/11 with Betfair to retain Sterling beyond the summer transfer window.

Pep Guardiola will have a big say too. If the City manager tells his superiors that Sterling is an indispensable part of his plans for the 2022/23 campaign, we will almost certainly see the 27-year-old playing in sky blue for another year.

North London Calling For Neasden-Raised Star?

Mikel Arteta

Although he was born in Jamaica, Sterling grew up in Neasden and went to school in Wembley.

He has spent his entire professional career in the northwest of England, so for sentimental reasons he might be ready to return to the capital - and Arsenal are priced at 4/1 with Unibet to bring him back to north London specifically.

Mikel Arteta worked with Sterling during his time as Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad.

Gabriel Jesus and Raphinha look set to join Arsenal, but that will not be the end of their transfer business, as Arteta attempts to build a squad capable of qualifying for the Champions League.

There are two main problems, though. The first is that Arsenal would struggle to pay £60m for Sterling and £50m for Jesus, who is clearly their priority.

The second is that the winger would probably not be willing to drop into the Europa League at this stage of his career.

Tottenham Could Provide Alternative In The Capital

Sterling would be able to keep his place at Europe’s top table if he moved to Tottenham, who pipped their arch-rivals to a fourth-place finish last term.

Antonio Conte’s side are perhaps the likeliest challengers to Manchester City and Liverpool next season, and Sterling would certainly fit into a recruitment model which appears to have shifted to signing players who are at the peak of their powers.

However, there has not been any talk of Spurs being a possible destination for Sterling in the last couple of weeks.

Moreover, the club would struggle to meet his wage demands, with the 27-year-old currently earning £300,000 at City.

Odds of 12/1 with Paddy Power show that Spurs are not expected to sign Sterling.

Real Madrid Rank Outsiders At This Stage

Sterling hinted last year that he was considering a move overseas, and Real Madrid would no doubt be one of his preferred destinations.

“If there was the option to go somewhere else for more game time I would be open to it,” he said

“As an English player all I know is the Premier League and I’ve always thought: ‘You know, maybe one day I’d love to play abroad and see how I would come up against that challenge.’”

Madrid could be in the market for another attacker after being shunned by Kylian Mbappe, who performed a U-turn in signing a new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Yet there has been little speculation that the European champions are genuinely interested in Sterling, who would probably play second fiddle to Vinicius Junior anyway.

That explains why Madrid are as long as 12/1 with UK bookmakers.
