A rare Saturday evening fixture welcomes fans on Saturday, and this is a clash between two of the richest clubs on the planet.
It’s very hard to predict what will happen here, largely because Newcastle looked in fine form against lowly Aston Villa last weekend. Have they strengthened enough over the summer to genuinely challenge Manchester City this season?
Kevin De Bruyne’s injury doesn’t help City, nor does the fact they played Sevilla in Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup. John Stones is out of the weekend game, while Ruben Dias is a doubt. Suddenly City, even with Erling Haaland, don’t look quite so formidable.
The impetus is on Newcastle to show their mettle here. Newcastle were ruthless against Villa and Alexander Isak kept Callum Wilson out of the team.
With Harvey Barnes pushing for a start and Sandro Tonali nicely settled in, who is to say Newcastle can’t win this game?

Everton endured a miserable day of it last weekend as they lost 1-0 at home to Fulham. Villa, despite going down 5-1 to Newcastle and losing centre-back Tyrone Mings to injury, can at least look at this game as one to wipe the slate clean.
The problem is neither side look particularly threatening going forward. Ollie Watkins lacked service at St James’ Park and all the reward Neal Maupay got for leading the Toffees line on Saturday was online abuse.
