UFC 295 Predictions:

Two title fights top the bill in New York in the early hours of Sunday morning, with UK betting sites finding it difficult to decipher the winner in either match up and that has resulted in some eye-catching odds.

Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich square off for the interim heavyweight belt, with the winner looking to set up a contest with the victor of the bout between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic which is set to take place in 2024.

Topping the line-up is the battle between Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira, who both have their eyes on winning the vacant light heavyweight belt in one of the world’s most notorious combat venues, Madison Square Garden.

Tale Of Two Quick Finishers

It’s no secret the co-main event will grab the attention of the vast majority of UFC fans, and this is largely down to it featuring two of the three quickest finishers in the whole roster.

Aspinall holds the record of the shortest average fight time in the UFC, with the Salford native being in the octagon for just two minutes and 19 seconds on average. While Pavlovich is third in the rankings, just four seconds behind the Englishman.

As a result, UFC betting sites general consensus is that this contest will be over in the first couple of rounds, with a knockout finish seen as inevitable.

Questions arose about how Aspinall would return following that devastating knee injury he suffered just 15 seconds into his bout with Curtis Blaydes back in July 2022.

But the Manchester fighter showed no hesitance on his return and picked up exactly where he left off when stopping Marcin Tybura in just 73 seconds, calming all the fears of fight fans.

With what’s at stake for both fighters though, in terms of monetary value and a potential showdown with Jones or Miocic, we believe both could see at least the third round for the first time in their careers.

It would be easy to side with a man who has been in a full training camp as opposed to Aspinall, who received the call on just two week’s notice.

But as we saw in Michael Bisping’s historic win over Luke Rockhold, it can prove difficult for a fighter who has prepared for a whole different opponent to adjust so late into fight preparation.

Subsequently, we are backing ‘Two Beers’ to get this career defining victory and set up a monstrous clash with either of the heavyweight superstars that await him in the turn of the year.

A Potential Classic On The Cards

Jiri Prochazka

Jiri Prochazka was in one of the fights of the year in 2022, when he defeated Glover Teixeira to claim the light heavyweight title.

However, a scheduled rematch with the Brazilian-American had to be cancelled following a horrific shoulder injury suffered by the Czech, leading to a lengthy lay-off.

A subsequent 12 months out of the octagon in a professional manner could prove costly against his upcoming opponent, Alex Pereira, who aims for a title in what will be just his 11th fight in the UFC.

Although the Brazilian is five years the senior in this bout, he is in his infancy when it comes to his UFC career. Nevertheless, Pereira enters this contest as the narrow favourite on betting apps.

'Poatan' may be unproven at this weight, but he showed last time out against Jan Blachowicz that he will not be man-handled regardless of this step up.

And due to that recent performance, we have to side with Pereira to win by knockout in this one, while Prochazka could fall short when looking to utilise his ground game.

With power being a staple of the Brazilian, we anticipate him coming out in search of that early finish, as he seeks to take advantage of ‘Denisa’s’ ring rust.

The longer the fight goes on, most would tend to side with the reigning champion, but given what that injury could’ve done both physically and mentally for the Czech, it could be a late stoppage via a lethal counter for 'Poatan' in this contest.
