Why Harry Kane Is Still Europe's Goal King

As if we didn’t already know it, Harry Kane is proving once again that he is the best striker in Europe.

Kane is the leading scorer in Europe’s top five leagues with 24 league goals in his first season at Bayern Munich.

England’s skipper wasted little time settling into life in Germany, and barring an injury or a sudden loss of form, Kane should collect his first Bundesliga Golden Boot award.

But can he lead Bayern to a 12th successive title? They are favourites with football betting sites, even though they trail Bayer Leverkusen by two points ahead of Saturday's meeting.

Kane’s form ahead of this summer’s European Championships is encouraging for the Three Lions, who were beaten by Italy in the final three years ago.

So how does Kane’s form compare with Europe’s finest and the Englishmen hoping to join him in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Germany.

Kane Is The Goal King Of Europe

When Harry Kane decided to leave Tottenham to sign for Bayern Munich, questions were asked whether he would find scoring as easy as he did in the Premier League.

After scoring 24 goals in his first 20 league games, Kane has emphatically answered those who doubted him. He is the leading scorer in Europe's top five leagues.

Second on the list is Kylian Mbappe, who is the only other player in Europe’s top five leagues to have scored 20 goals, while Inter’s Lautaro Martinez is one goal away from reaching that milestone.

Europe's Leading Scorers

Kane has yet to win a major honour in his career, but he hopes to end his trophy drought with Bayern, who have won the last 11 Bundesliga titles.

However, Bayern’s domination is under threat from Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.

Defeat for the defending champions in Leverkusen on Saturday will see a five-point gap open up.

The remaining three months of the season are massive in more ways than one.

Not only are teams fighting for every point to edge them closer to their goals, players are playing for places at this summer’s European Championships in Germany.

The Three Lions are joint favourites on many betting apps with France.

As England captain, Kane is assured of his place in England’s squad. But what other attacking options will Southgate choose?

Right now, Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke is leading the way for English strikers in the Premier League with 13 goals.

Premier League's Leading English Scorers

Ollie Watkins is right behind him on 11 goals, but 10 assists might edge Watkins ahead of Solanke if it came down to one or the other.

Like Watkins, Jarrod Bowen’s 11 goals does not include any penalties and after being in and around the squad before missing out on the World Cup, Bowen will hope for a strong finish to the season.

Cole Palmer has played his way into contention with 10 goals, but five of those have been penalties.

What a story it would be if Luton Town's Elijah Adebayo was selected, but Southgate may stick with those who have served him well in the past.
