Unibet Gets Licence for Sportsbook and iGaming in Canada ahead of Ontario Launch

Kindred is set to debut its Unibet platform in Ontario.

On Monday, the company announced it had attained a licence to operate in Ontario, giving Kindred its seventh licence where it is represented by Unibet. Kindred will launch its online sportsbook and iGaming products under the Unibet name when Ontario launches its new gaming market on April 4.

"This is an exciting day and a significant milestone for both Kindred and Unibet,” Amanda Brewer, Country Manager Canada, Kindred Group, said in a media release. “We are proud to have received permission to launch in Ontario on the first day the market opens and look forward to building long-term relationships with our customers and partners.

“The iGaming market in Ontario is expected to be one of the largest in North America, which makes it a truly interesting proposition for Kindred.”

The Unibet Sportsbook and iGaming products will be available to Ontario customers at on.unibet.ca, while the mobile apps can be downloaded in the Apple Store and Google Play Store once the iGaming and sports betting in Ontario markets go live on April 4.

“Ontario is full of sports teams and passionate fans, which is no surprise given the history and popularity of the NHL, NBA and MLB leagues,” Brewer said. “What makes Ontario unique is that thanks to its multicultural population matches within for example soccer, rugby, tennis, curling, and cricket are easily found.

“There will be no shortage of sports for fans to wager on when the market opens on 4 April. We are excited to provide fans with first-class products and experiences.”

Approved Operators

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is tasked with approving operators and platform providers for the province’s new gaming market.

Kindred and Unibet are the latest to receive a licence, joining PointsBet, Bet365, Rush Street Interactive, 888 Holdings and Rivalry as other operators who have been approved to launch on April 4 with their gaming offerings.

Kambi was also authorized to provide its sportsbook technology services to operators who elect to use its platforms.
