The Grand National is the biggest National Hunt race run anywhere in the world and takes place every April at Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, England.
Because the race attracts so much interest, Grand National betting is colossal in the UK and Ireland, and is particularly popular amongst many people who do not normally watch or bet on horse racing at other times of the year. Grand National day is always one of, if not the, busiest day of the year for all of the top horse racing betting sites.
The race took place for the first time in 1839 and is a handicap chase run over four miles, two-and-a-half furlongs, requiring the 40-strong field of runners to jump 30 fences over a gruelling two circuits of the famous Aintree course. The race is broadcast live on ITV in the UK and viewing figures have reached almost 10 million in recent years.
The Grand National is the highest value Jumps race in Europe, with a prize fund that has increased substantially over the years, settling at a cool £1m for modern-day editions.
Since its inception, the Grand National has remained one of the most popular horse racing betting events all over the world. Over £250 million has been staked on Grand National betting in recent years and for many, it is the only event that they will bet on all year. The race is regarded as the “ultimate test of horse and rider” because it features bigger fences than those found on any other Jumps track.

The National Course at Aintree consists of two laps of 16 fences and the first 14 of those fences are jumped twice, on a journey in excess of four miles. The course is well known for having one of the longest run-ins from the final fence of any chase worldwide, at a distance of 494 yards, and for having its famous National fences.
They are uniquely large, often wide, and covered in spruce, unlike any other fences in jumps racing.
Here are the most famous of all Grand National fences:
The National Course is used in the Grand National, the amateurs’ Grand National, the Fox Hunters Chase, and the Topham Chase in April, and in the Becher Chase and Grand Sefton Chase in December.

Placing a bet on the Grand National is something millions of people do every year and for many it is the only event that they will wager on!
Remember, bookmakers offer different Grand National odds so make sure you do your homework and get the best price you can about your selection. This may mean having multiple accounts, which could in turn give you access to more Grand National free bets.
Online | You will require an account if you’re planning on placing a bet on the Grand National online. There are so many online bookmakers to choose from so make sure to do some shopping around before parting with your cash.
By Telephone | Again, you will need to have an account created. Once you are up and running it is as simple as ringing (or texting, in some cases) your bookies, telling them the name of the race, the horse and amount you’d like to bet – simple!
In a Betting Shop | The atmosphere on the day of the Grand National in bookies is always great. Grab a betting slip and write down the name of the race (in this case, ‘Grand National’), the name of the horse you want to bet on and the amount you’d like to stake.
Make sure to take these points into account when considering your horse racing betting strategy for Grand National 2021.

Grand National odds are available at all online betting sites. The demanding nature of the race – the extreme length, fearsome obstacles and a big field of runners, mean the result cannot often be predicted. It has been described as more of a lottery than a horse race although recent modifications to the course have tempered the randomness of the contest.
Generally speaking, the optimal time to place a bet on the Grand National is early on the day of the race because many new bookmakers don’t offer ‘Best Odds Guaranteed’ (if the horse goes off a bigger price than the one you backed it at, then you get that bigger price) until the day of the race and this is something that you should take advantage of if it is available to you.
If you decide to dive into Grand National 2021 betting prior to the final declaration stage (48 hours before the race) then your bet will be subject to ante-post rules, which means that if your horse is withdrawn for any reason, you are not entitled to a refund of your stake (some bookmakers issue refunds in these circumstances as a free bet).
As one of the toughest horse races in the world, there is nearly always a double-figure horse that you could consider a stake on. Plenty of recent Grand National winners have been double figures at their starting price.
