Brendan Rodgers' future continues to look uncertain after Celtic lost at Dundee for the first time in 37 years over the weekend.

The Bhoys now trail Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts by five points and there is now a new favourite on betting sites for a potential replacement should Rodgers leave.

The Northern Irishman called for investment in the squad over the summer but was left disappointed by what he perceived to be a lack of backing from the board.

Although the former Leicester boss is unlikely to be sacked, he has been linked with a return to the Premier League and may decide to leave Celtic for a second time should a suitable vacancy arise.

His contract at Celtic expires at the end of the season and there has been no word on whether Rodgers will sign a new deal.

Rodgers led the Hoops to the Scottish Premiership title last season, but they have struggled to score goals this season.

In August, they lost a Champions League qualifier to Kairat after both legs finished goalless and were demoted to the Europa League.

Ange Postecoglou, sacked by Nottingham Forest recently, won the Treble with the Hoops in 2022/23 and would seriously consider a dramatic return to Glasgow, according to Football Insider.

Postecoglou has leapfrogged Kjetil Knutsen as the new frontrunner to be Celtic's next manager, but we examine the other contenders if Rodgers decides to head for new pastures.

Ange A Fan Favourite

Postecoglou's managerial career has taken a nosedive since he left Celtic in 2023.

The Aussie boss is still a fan favourite at the club, having guided them to two League titles, two League Cups and a Scottish Cup.

A move to Tottenham didn't go as planned, despite ending his time in north London with a Europa League trophy.

Ange

The 60-year-old was sacked in the summer but returned to work with Nottingham Forest at the beginning of September.

However, 39 days later, the Australian was shown the door just 20 minutes after a 3-0 home defeat by Chelsea extended his winless run to eight games.

Celtic fans would love to see Postecoglou back in the dugout and he is priced at 6/4 with betting apps.

Terzic Edin To Glasgow?

Edin Terzic steered Borussia Dortmund to the 2023/24 Champions League final, but decided to leave the club two weeks later.

Despite being a highly-regarded coach, the German remains without a job, although he reportedly held talks with Monaco a couple of weeks ago before the Ligue 1 club sacked Adi Hutter.

Monaco decided to appoint Sebastien Pocognoli instead, so Terzic is still on the market and available to start a new role.

Terzic would be appealing to a Celtic board that seemingly refused to dig deep in the summer and is now the 3/1 second favourite to be the next Bhoys manager.

Knutsen Link Remains

This is not the first time Knutsen has been linked with Celtic.

The Norwegian was the favourite for the job after Postecoglou joined Tottenham, but Rodgers ultimately returned for a second spell in Glasgow.

Knutsen, the architect behind Bodo/Glimt’s remarkable success over the last few years, is also one of the favourites to fill the Rangers vacancy.

The 57-year-old has won four Norwegian league titles with his current employers and led them to the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2024/25.

Football betting sites made Knutsen the 2/1 favourite to make the move to the Scottish champions, but those odds have since drifted to 7/2.

Robinson Ready For A Top Job

Stephen Robinson (4/1) has proved himself in the lower leagues in England and with lesser teams in Scotland, but he could be ready to manage a big club at this stage of his career.

The Northern Irishman has been in charge at St Mirren since 2022, guiding the club to three top-six finishes in a row.

Working on a shoestring budget, the 50-year-old also led the club to Europa Conference League qualification last season.

If the Celtic board are looking for someone with experience in Scottish football, Robinson would be an interesting appointment.

McGlynn In The Picture

John McGlynn may lack the glamour associated with Celtic, but his remarkable spell at Falkirk cannot be disputed.

The former Raith boss led the Bairns to the Scottish League One title in an unbeaten 2023/24 campaign and 12 months later they were promoted to the Scottish Premiership as champions.

A 1-1 draw with Rangers before the international break sparked the end of Russell Martin's reign at Ibrox and a 2-1 win at Motherwell lifted them to eighth in the table.

Whether the board would consider McGlynn, who turns 64 in December, is open to debate, but he is 11/2 in the next Celtic manager odds.

Brown, Duff And Keane In The Frame

Scott Brown (6/1) remains a club legend and would be a popular appointment with Celtic fans.

The former captain played over 400 times for the Bhoys and is currently in charge of Scottish Championship side Ayr United.

Former Republic of Ireland teammates Damien Duff (7/1) and Robbie Keane (8/1) are also in the running to be Celtic's next manager.

Duff is looking for his next opportunity after leaving Irish side Shelbourne earlier this year.

The former Chelsea winger spent four years in charge of the Irish outfit, leading them to the league title in 2024.

Duff could be one of the names on Celtic’s shortlist if a vacancy arises, but a relative lack of experience might count against him.

On the other hand, Keane has amassed managerial experience from around Europe, enjoying plenty of success along the way, winning league titles with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ferencvaros.

The former Tottenham and Leeds United man also enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with Celtic in his playing days, scoring 12 goals in 16 appearances in 2010.

Carrick Heads Outsiders

Michael Carrick is looking for a new job following his dismissal by Middlesbrough in the summer.

The former Manchester United midfielder was 8/1 at the time of our last preview, but his odds have since lengthened to 12/1.

Ex-Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is also available and can be backed at 14/1.
