Gary O'Neil has moved to second favourite in the market to be Celtic's next permanent manager.

Martin O'Neill remains in charge of the Hoops for the time being, and a dramatic injury-time winner at St Mirren has given the club a bit longer to make their appointment.

Wilfried Nancy remains the favourite on football betting sites but the market is likely to change over the coming days and weeks.

The Bhoys remain second in the table after Callum McGregor's 95th-minute winner on Saturday night.

However, the gap between them and Hearts is now down to four points, after the leaders lost 1-0 at Aberdeen.

We check out the contenders and the latest next Celtic manager odds.

Hoops Fancy Nancy For Coach Role

Celtic have reportedly been holding talks with Columbus Crew over compensation for Nancy, who has one year left on his contract.

The 48-year-old Frenchman won the MLS Cup with the Crew in 2023, followed a year later by the Leagues Cup, an annual tournament for the best teams in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Crew's season ended when they were knocked out of the 2025 play-offs by Ohio rivals Cincinnati, and now it could be the end of the line for their head coach.

Nancy, who also steered Columbus to last year's CONCACAF Champions Cup final, was 10/1 for the Celtic job a couple of weeks ago, but his odds have plummeted to 2/9 with Bet365

Gary Cut To Replace Namesake

Celtic could replace O'Neill with Gary O'Neil, who remains out of work following his departure from Wolves last December.

The 42-year-old (9/2) has proved his qualities in his previous roles, including his time at Bournemouth.

O'Neil's knowledge of the game is a bonus, however a lack of European experience could count against him.

O'Neill Keeps Winning But Demands Quick Decision

Saturday's win at St Mirren made it three league wins from three in O'Neill's interim role, and he has issued a demand to the club to make their appointment quickly.

The 73-year-old is happy to continue as caretaker boss, but wants the situation to be sorted out as soon as possible.

On Sunday, December 14, Celtic will face Saints again in the Scottish League Cup final and it would be fitting for that to be O'Neill's final game in charge.

The Northern Irishman guided the Hoops to the final with victory over Rangers, and O'Neill is priced at 10/1 to be the next Celtic manager.

Knutsen Drifts On Back Of Nancy News

Kjetil Knutsen was the overwhelming favourite on a couple of betting sites recently, but his odds have drifted from 7/4 to 14/1.

For the last seven seasons, Knutsen has been with Bodo/Glimt who have won the Eliteserien in four of the last five years and are a point behind leaders Viking with two games remaining, so another title is a possibility.

Remarkably, Bodo/Glimt also reached the Europa League semi-final in 2024/25.

The Celtic board may have to work hard to prise him away from the Norwegian champions as he turned down the chance to speak to Ajax a couple of years ago.

He has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Leeds job should Daniel Farke get the boot, so he appears to be a man in demand.

Keane A Double Title Winner

Robbie Keane played for six Premier League clubs, including two spells with Tottenham, who loaned out the Irishman to Celtic for a stint in 2010, during which he scored 12 goals in 16 appearances.

The former Liverpool striker is now making his name as a manager and has won titles in Israel and Hungary with Maccabi Tel Aviv and his current club Ferencvaros, who have made a decent start to the new season.

Keane would find it hard to resist the team he supports should they come calling, but at 14/1 he is not regarded as one of the favourites to fill the vacancy.

Maloney And Carsley Outsiders

Shaun Maloney has been acting as O'Neill's assistant since Brendan Rodgers walked away from the club for a second time and is priced at 12/1 to get the job.

The 42-year-old won five titles as a player in the first of two spells with Celtic in the 2000s and remarkably went on to win the FA Cup with Wigan, the club he went on to manage 10 years later after a short spell with Hibs.

Lee Carsley is also in the mix at 12/1, but would he be prepared to leave his role as coach of England's U21s after guiding them to back-to-back Euro success?

Other candidates include current Wales manager Craig Bellamy (20/1), former Rangers defender Kevin Muscat (16/1), Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna (25/1) and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (28/1).

Fair play to Martin O'Neill. Can see him keeping the job for the rest of the season - if they continue winning like they are!

I think appointing Duff would be exciting for Celtic and Scottish football.

As soon as a job he likes becomes available, Rodgers will be gone. He's got history and he'll use the board as an excuse to leave.
