With less than three weeks of the summer transfer window remaining, betting sites expect clubs across Europe to start accelerating their business.

Several Premier League players are likely to be on the move before the September 1 deadline, with Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers among those generating headlines.

The Portugal international swapped the Champions League for the Championship when he joined Wolves from Porto in 2017. But after five years at Molineux, the midfielder might be ready for a new challenge.

Several sides, both in England and overseas, have been linked with Neves in the last 12 months or so.

You can find the latest odds below, then read on for our analysis of the situation.

Wolves Will Hope To Keep Hold Of Neves For Another Year

Conor Coady’s loan move to Everton this week shows that Wolves are not averse to letting established players leave the club.

The former captain was a mainstay under Nuno Espirito Santo and in Bruno Lage’s maiden campaign at the helm, but a switch to a back four left Coady surplus to requirements and he was allowed to join a Premier League rival.

However, the situation with Neves is significantly different, hence him being odds-on at 1/5 to stay put with football betting sites. The midfielder remains a fundamental part of Lage’s team.

Unlike Coady he started the 2-1 loss to Leeds United on the opening weekend, while the probable departure of Morgan Gibbs-White means Wolves will soon be short of bodies in the engine room.

They will be looking to add to their midfield options before the window closes and not lose one of their most important players.

Manchester United Could Renew Interest In The Portuguese Star

Manchester United has been spoken as a potential destination for Neves for at least a couple of years now.

It is no secret that the Red Devils need to strengthen in the centre of the park, where Fred and Scott McTominay remain regular starters. The exits of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic on July 1 have only compounded a long-standing problem.

United appear to have finally accepted that Frenkie de Jong is not interested in a switch to Old Trafford, with Chelsea now the favourites to sign him.

Adrien Rabiot is seemingly on his way to Manchester, but Erik ten Hag would no doubt like to add more of a midfield controller to the ranks before the summer is out.

Neves, who has Premier League experience and is still only 25, would fit the bill. He is available at 3/1 with BetVictor to join United in the next three weeks.

Barcelona’s Trolley Dash Could Lead To Neves Pursuit

Xavi Hernandez

Despite being in debt to the tune of £1.1bn, Barcelona continue to splash the cash on new signings.

They have spent more than £125m so far this summer on Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde, as well as signing Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen on free transfers.

At the time of writing, Barcelona have not been able to register any of those newcomers, as they continue to seek creative ways to meet La Liga’s salary cap.

Yet they are still pursuing players in the transfer market, with Marcos Alonso and Bernardo Silva on their radar.

Neves is a different kind of player to Silva, so it is hard to see Barcelona switching their attention to the Wolves man if they miss out on their top target. Nevertheless, the Blaugrana are listed at 5/1 for his signature.

Arsenal And Chelsea Might Look To Sign Another Midfielder

As mentioned above, Chelsea are now at the front of the queue for Frenkie de Jong. But the Netherlands international would still prefer to stay at the Camp Nou, so the Blues may be forced to turn their attention elsewhere.

Neves would be a good long-term replacement for Jorginho, who is out of contract next summer (as is N’Golo Kante).

Chelsea are rated as an 11/1 chance, with Unibet seeing Arsenal’s hopes of signing him as a better at 9/1 shout.

Mikel Arteta has admitted he wants to do more business before the window closes, and central midfield is thought to be one of the areas Arsenal are targeting.

Youri Tielemans is high up their wish list, but Neves could become a target if Leicester City dig in their heels over the Belgian.

Could Neves Return To His Former Club?

Porto are priced at 20/1 with betting apps to re-sign Neves, who came through their youth academy after joining the club at the age of eight.

The idea of returning to the Estadio do Dragao one day would no doubt appeal to the midfielder, but it is not likely to be on his radar right now.

Neves left Porto to put himself in the bigger shop window provided by the English game, so it is hard to see him embarking on another stint in Portuguese football any time soon.

For similar reasons, avoid the 12/1 on offer for Neves to move to MLS. He can be backed at the same odds to end up in Italy, Germany, France or Spain and if you fancy him to sign for Barcelona before the month is out, consider backing the latter selection for better value.
