TikTok Spells Out Its Gambling Ban For Shop Sellers

TikTok Spells Out Its Gambling Ban For Shop Sellers

TikTok has spelled out how its gambling ban applies to sellers, creators and shoppers across videos, livestreams and TikTok Shop listings.

Online betting, lotteries and casino-style games are all off limits, and the platform's US and UK seller guidance goes into detail on what counts. Here is what the published rules say, and what they mean for gambling brands and affiliates.

TikTok's rules leave little room for gambling on its platform. The company's TikTok Shop seller guidance says gambling activities are prohibited in both livestreams and videos, even if the creator does not engage with viewers or offer a prize, and that selling gambling-related products, services or paraphernalia is strictly banned.

The wording sits alongside other steps the platform has taken on gambling-adjacent content, including its decision to ban safer gambling content on podcaster accounts. We could not find a dated TikTok announcement for this week, so this report sets out what the published rules say.

How TikTok Defines Gambling

The seller guidance defines gambling as users providing money or any other item of value in a game or activity for the chance to win a prize. Its example is a seller who lets viewers pay to spin a wheel for the possibility of winning an item of any value.

The page lists phrasing and set-ups that sellers should avoid, including calls to place bets or win at the casino, sweepstakes-style entries tied to purchases, raffle pools and a single dollar to play a dice-guessing game. Playing claw or bingo games on behalf of viewers is also listed.

The same guidance warns against purchase incentives that feel like prizes, such as a grand prize for the highest-spending customer or a lucky draw for buyers who spend a set amount, and against randomised product sales that use blind boxes or a spinning wheel.

UK Rules Go Further On Gamification

TikTok Shop's UK guidance describes gambling as paying for a chance to win something of value, naming raffles, lotteries, betting activities and casino-style games. It adds that gambling-related products, services and paraphernalia may not be sold on TikTok Shop UK.

The UK page also bans what it calls gamification, meaning gameplay-and-chance techniques such as wheel spins, lucky scoops, lucky draws and bingo-style promotions, whether or not the buyer pays to take part. Its examples of gambling include a seller playing blackjack while a text prompt invites viewers to buy bets, and a seller offering a paid dice-guessing game.

The platform has also taken action on chance-based selling. It has also moved to restrict random card breaks on its Shop platform.

The Wider Community Guidelines

TikTok's Regulated Goods, Services, and Commercial Activities guidelines, released on August 25, 2026 and effective from September 24, 2026, say the platform does not allow trading, marketing or providing access to regulated, prohibited or high-risk goods and services. The page points users to gambling support resources.

It also notes that TikTok's treatment of this content can differ in some regions and on LIVE, and that it offers limited exceptions for verified business accounts and verified TikTok Shop sellers meeting its standards. The guidelines require commercial content to be clearly disclosed, and repeated failures can lead to restrictions or a ban.

For gambling brands and affiliates, the practical point is that product promotion on TikTok Shop is off the table, and that creators should check the platform rules for their region before posting.
