Doctor Who Odds: Axe Price Drifts After First Emmy Nomination In 62 Years

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Doctor Who lately, but one thing we know for sure is the sci-fi show has been nominated for its first-ever Emmy Award.
After 62 years, Whovians had reason to celebrate on the recent Primetime Emmy Awards nominations day after the show's name featured amid the nominees for the Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming prize.
At the time of writing, Doctor Who's third season is yet to be confirmed, and it remains unclear whether it will even happen.
However, there have been some market changes on betting sites following the BBC programme's Emmy nod.
But does Doctor Who have what it takes to win the prestigious prize?
Doctor Who's Emmys Twist
The show secured a nomination for dance number There's Always a Twist, which featured at the end of The Devil’s Chord episode.
Choreographer Jack Murphy was the brains behind the moves for the nominated routine, which starred Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas and pro dancer Johannes Radebe.
It came about in the episode when the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his companion Ruby (Millie Gibson) opted for a dance break after paying a visit to one of the world's most iconic bands, The Beatles, at London's Abbey Road Studios.
The Time Lord leads a room full of people in a dance to original song There’s Always a Twist.

However, another thing is for sure - Who faces stiff competition for the gong, including from Murphy himself.
The choreographer also has a nod in the same category for Bridgerton after several routines - 'Butterfly Ball', 'Eros and Psyche', 'Jealousy', 'Wedding Dance', and 'Rejoining the Ton' - helped earned the Netflix megahit a nod.
Elsewhere, the Emmys' top overall nominee Severance - which has 27 nods across the Primetime and Creative Arts Emmys - is also up for the Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming prize, as is comedy-drama Etoile and police procedural programme Will Trent.
Doctor Who Odds: Will Show Win An Emmy In 2025?
| Odds | Probability |
No | 1/3 | 75% |
Yes | 3/1 | 25% |
With competition looking extremely strong, it's 1/3 on betting apps for Who bosses to leave September's Emmys ceremony empty-handed.
However, there could be a twist at the end - and Doctor Who might win the show's first-ever Emmy.
It is 3/1 to do so.
Emmys Lifeline
But even if the sci-fi show isn't successful at this year's Primetime Emmys ceremony, Whovians still have reason to celebrate.
The mere fact the programme received its first-ever nod at such a prestigious awards ceremony must count for something, right?
Doctor Who super-fans will certainly hope so.
Following the nod, the show has lengthened to 13/8, from Evens, to be shelved this year, and it has drifted to 2/1, from 11/8, to be rested in 2026.
Doctor Who Odds: When Will The Show Be Shelved?
Year | Odds | Probability |
2025 | 13/8 | 38.1% |
2026 | 2/1 | 33.3% |
2027 | 5/2 | 28.6% |
2028 | 4/1 | 20% |
2029 Or Later | 5/1 | 16.7% |
While there is still uncertainty around, the nomination has put Who back in the news for plenty of positive reasons.
Recently, there was some doom and gloom among some Whovians, with season three yet to be confirmed following the series two finale, The Reality War, which aired on May 31.
While Doctor Who has aired many more than two seasons, the latest series is referred to as "season two", because it is the second to be co-produced by Disney+.
However, some have questioned whether Disney+ will even be involved with Who in the future?
There has been speculation that other streamers, such as Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, could be interested in co-producing the iconic British programme.
But Doctor Who's first-ever Emmy nod will surely be an attractive proposition to a potential new streamer.
Erin Doc-herty
With the show's future looking more positive, among fans at least, viewers are even more eager to find out who the 16th Doctor is, after Ncuti departed his role as the 15th Doctor.
In The Reality War, Gatwa's Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper, who cheerily said: "Oh, hello!"
Many are now convinced Billie - who played Rose Tyler, the Doctor's companion, in 2005 - will portray the 16th Doctor in the BBC sci-fi series.
Doctor Who Odds: Will Billie Piper Be Confirmed As 16th Doctor?
| Odds | Probability |
Yes | 1/2 | 66.7% |
No | 2/1 | 33.3% |
There has been no confirmation from Who bosses about this since the latest series ended, and Billie is out to 1/2, from 1/3, to be the next confirmed Time Lord.
What's more, Emmy nominee Erin Doherty - who has a nod in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category for her powerful performance in Adolescence - has been cut to just 6/4 to land the new Time Lord role instead.
Doctor Who Odds: Who Will Be The 16th Doctor?
Actor | Odds | Probability |
Billie Piper | 1/2 | 66.7% |
Erin Doherty | 6/4 | 40% |
Matt Smith | 2/1 | 33.3% |
Aimee Lou Wood | 5/2 | 28.6% |
Hugh Grant | 3/1 | 25% |
Jo Martin | 3/1 | 25% |
Danny Dyer | 7/2 | 22.2% |
Tom Hiddleston | 4/1 | 20% |
Lydia West | 9/2 | 18.2% |
Diane Morgan | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Stephen Merchant | 5/1 | 16.7% |
Martin Freeman | 11/2 | 15.4% |
David Tennant | 6/1 | 14.3% |

Idris Alba | 9/1 | 10% |
Alan Davies | 10/1 | 9.1% |
Josh O'Connor | 12/1 | 7.7% |
Elsewhere, House of Dragon actor Matt Smith, who played the 11th Doctor from 2010 to 2013, is a 2/1 chance to be the 16th Doctor, and Ncuti's former Sex Education co-star Aimee Lou Wood is a 5/2 shot.
Don't forget - There’s Always a Twist at the End.
