Nevada Regulators To Review Technical Standard Revisions
The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) will consider proposed revisions to 10 of the state's Technical Standards for Gaming Devices and Associated Equipment at its next meeting on October 7, spanning slot metering systems, cashless wagering accounts, race and leading sportsbooks and more.
The board notified licensees of the compiled revisions and hearing date in a September 4 industry notice, with the draft standards dated between June and August.
Proposed changes range from modest additions to Standard 9 (digital pari-mutuel systems) to substantial rewrites of Standard 3 (slot metering systems), with most edits pulling requirements that previously lived only in the state's Minimum Internal Control Standards into a single, definitive technical framework. Interested parties can submit written comments through October 5, ahead of the hearing.
Modernisation Push Continues Under Dreitzer
NGCB Chair Mike Dreitzer, who took over the board last year, has made modernising Nevada's technology-related regulatory framework a priority, with the board's Technology Division saying the work compiling scattered technical requirements into formal standards has been years in the making.
The revisions land during a busy stretch for the board, which has issued five multimillion-dollar anti-money-laundering fines to Las Vegas Strip operators since the start of 2025, four of them tied to illegal bookmaker Mathew Bowyer, and one involving Wynn Las Vegas, which forfeited $130 million to the federal government over proxy-betting violations. Depending on stakeholder feedback, the new standards could be adopted and published by year's end.
A Framework Years In The Making
NGCB's Technology Division chief Jeremy Eberwein said the board had 'various iterations of the drafts internally probably going back at least a decade,' with the project repeatedly stalling before this year's push to compile the standards into one reference source.
The Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers, a trade group that typically weighs in on such technical proposals, did not respond to a request for comment ahead of the board's publication deadline.
