Next Huddersfield Town Manager Odds: Heckingbottom Lined Up For Terriers Task
Huddersfield Town are on the search for a new manager after relieving Darren Moore of his duties following a run of just one win in his last six league matches, and the best betting sites are poised with the latest odds.
The Terriers sit just one place outside the relegation zone in 21st, and have just five wins from their 29 Championship matches.
This has called the Huddersfield hierarchy into action and they are now analysing a list of potential successors that is headed by former Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom.
Heckingbottom has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently, as the 46-year-old was banned from driving for six months after pleading guilty to speeding.
However, the ex-Blades boss will certainly look to drive the Terriers up the Championship table, should he take over at the John Smith’s Stadium in the near future.
Michael Duff and John Eustace are the next in line and they both possess managerial experience in the second flight with Swansea and Birmingham.
Heckingbottom Installed As The Frontrunner
Paul Heckingbottom (Evens) has already been in charge of three different Yorkshire clubs – Barnsley, Leeds and Sheffield United – so it would be a shock to few he was to fill the vacancy in west Yorkshire.
The former Darlington defender was most recently in charge of Sheffield United, but was ultimately sacked after they suffered a 5-0 loss away at relegation rivals Burnley.
The 46-year-old lasted just shy of two years in charge of the Blades, but left them rooted to the foot of the Premier League table when he was sacked on December 2.
He has a promotion to both the Championship and the Premier League in his CV, but surviving relegation to the third tier would be his primary aim if he was to take over at Huddersfield.
Duff And Eustace Linked To The Role
Michael Duff is the 4/1 second favourite on football betting sites to succeed Moore at the helm of Huddersfield.
The former Swansea boss lasted less than six months in charge of the Welsh side, but did a much better job with former employers Barnsley.
He led the Tykes to the League One play-off final in 2023, losing 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday in extra time, but picked up three Manager of the Month accolades for his efforts.
John Eustace (8/1) is the third favourite to take over the Terriers.
The 44-year-old has been without a job since his controversial sacking as Birmingham City boss back in October and looks to be biding his time before returning to the dugout.
He was doing an excellent job in charge of the Blues, sitting in sixth position after 11 matches and would be regarded as a significant coup if Huddersfield were to poach him.
Warnock, Jones or Mousinho Could Be The Answer
Betting apps are offering 10/1 for the legendary Neil Warnock to make yet another return to the John Smith’s Stadium.
Warnock came out of retirement last season for a second stint in charge of the side and he guided them to another season in the Championship.
He could be in line for a third spell, but at 74 years of age, it most likely would only be on a short-term contract.
Elsewhere, former Luton boss Nathan Jones (12/1) could be the next man in the Huddersfield dugout.
The Welshman left his role as Southampton boss after just three months, following just one victory in eight matches, and was the shortest non-caretaker manager in the Saints’ history.
He did a much better job with Luton, earning them promotion from League Two in 2017/18, and it may be this achievement that influences the Huddersfield board.
John Mousinho is currently leading League One with Portsmouth as they hunt for a return to the second tier for the first time since 2012.
He is a 14/1 chance to ditch Pompey, but with just 16 games left of the season, he looks as though he will attempt to try and earn promotion with the south coast side.
