Next Wycombe Manager Odds: Johnson Faces Competition From Dane

Promotion hopefuls Wycombe are stepping up their search for a new manager after Matt Bloomfield ended a two-year spell with the club to join Luton, and the best betting sites have drawn up a list of contenders for the role.
Bloomfield spent his entire playing career at the club where he made almost 500 appearances in a 19-year spell.
With the Chairboys remaining in second place in League One following a 2-1 win at Mansfield last weekend, their next appointment will be vital to maintaining their hopes of playing in the Championship next season.
The search for Bloomfield's successor is well under way, with fans and bookmakers speculating about who will be charged with building on his legacy.
As things stand, Lee Johnson has emerged as the 4/1 favourite with BetVictor to fill the vacancy, but he faces stiff competition from a new name in the frame.
Johnson Heads Field For Chairboys Role
Lee Johnson has been a manager both north and south of the border, but he was last in the dugout at Fleetwood 13 months ago.
Johnson seemed to be a rising star following reasonably successful spells with Oldham, Barnsley and Bristol City, but his reputation started to decline after he left Sunderland with a decent 51% win rate.
The son of former Robins manager Gary joined Hibernian for the 2022/23 campaign, but was sacked just a few games into the following season after a third successive defeat left the club rooted to the foot of the Scottish Premiership table.
Next Wycombe Manager Odds
Manager | Odds | Betting Site |
Lee Johnson | 4/1 | |
Rasmus Bertelsen | 6/1 | |
Claus Norgaard | 8/1 | |
Ian Evatt | 10/1 | |
Leam Richardson | 14/1 | |
Steven Schumacher | 14/1 | |
Des Buckingham | 20/1 | |
Dean Holden | 25/1 | |
Russell Martin | 25/1 |
However, just two weeks later he was appointed Fleetwood manager, a role which lasted just over three months.
With just six wins from 22 games, Johnson was shown the door, but his Football League experience could prove invaluable.
Johnson is now the outright favourite for the job, but his odds have doubled from 2/1 to 4/1 in the last couple of days.
Dane Emerges As Strong Contender
Rasmus Bertelsen may not be a well-known figure in England, but he has been working wonders with Randers in the Danish Superliga.
Bertelsen is approaching two years as manager of the club, who are third in the Danish top flight as the season prepares to resume in February.
Danish sports media outlet Tipsbladet claim that Wycombe have already held talks with Bertelsen about joining the club, although he reportedly would want to bring his assistant Fatah Abdirahman with him to Adams Park.
Whether this requirement is a stumbling block to a potential move remains to be seen, but the 41-year-old Dane is the 6/1 second favourite with football betting sites for the Chairboys job.
Norgaard Odds Lengthen
Claus Norgaard had been the outright favourite on a couple of occasions since Bloomfield's departure, but he is starting to drift out of the picture.
Norgaard was the 7/4 frontunner earlier this week but is now 8/1 with betting apps on him becoming Wycombe's next manager.
He would bring a wealth of experience from Danish football, having also enjoyed great success as assistant to Brentford head coach Thomas Frank for the last two years.
While his last senior managerial stint at Sonderjyske in 2018 had mixed results, Norgaard has since excelled within the Bees' innovative model, something which Wycombe would be keen to see repeated at Adams Park.
Evatt Enters The Arena
Ian Evatt was recently sacked by Bolton and has been installed as the 10/1 fourth favourite to replace Bloomfield.
Evatt won the National League with Barrow during the curtailed Covid-hit 2019/20 season which prompted a move to Bolton where he spent four and a half years.
In his debut campaign, Evatt secured promotion from League Two with a third-placed finish and two years later he won the EFL Trophy.
His attack-minded mentality is sure to go down well with supporters and he remains an interesting candidate for the role.
Richardson Chances Dwindle
Leam Richardson has experience of gaining promotion from League One with Wigan during the 2021/22 season when they went up as champions.
However, just 16 days after signing a new three-year contract with the Latics, Richardson was sacked after a run of six defeats in seven games saw them drop into the Championship relegation zone.
Richardson returned to the Championship as manager of bottom-of-the-table Rotherham in December 2023, but was unable to save them from the drop.
His reputation took a hit with the Millers, but Wigan fans will not forget what he achieved three seasons ago.
Richardson was 3/1 to make a return to the dugout with a Wycombe squad itching to get back to the Championship for the second time in the club’s history, but the emergence of a couple of other candidates has seen his odds drift to 14/1.

Schumacher Seeks Return
Steven Schumacher led Plymouth to the League One title in 2022/23 with 101 points before leaving the Pilgrims for Stoke just over 12 months ago.
He spent nine months with the Potters, but was sacked five games into the season after two wins and three losses.
Schumacher was baffled by that decision, but could he make a return to management with Wycombe and secure another promotion from the third tier?
The 40-year-old Liverpudlian had been linked with a return to Home Park when Wayne Rooney was sacked only for Miron Muslic to land the role.
Schumacher was initially 4/1 to fill the vacancy at Adams Park, but he is now 14/1 to replace Bloomfield.
Buckingham Now A Long Shot
Des Buckingham appeared to be in the running for the Wycombe job thanks to a strong coaching background, but his odds recently lengthened from 5/1 to 20/1.
The youngest head coach in A-League history with Wellington Phoenix, Buckingham went on win the 2019 Pacific Games with the New Zealand U23 team.
Later, he won the Indian Super League during a two-year spell with Mumbai City and returned to England in November 2023 to coach hometown club Oxford.
Under his stewardship, United secured a League One play-off final victory over Bolton at Wembley last season, but he was dismissed from his role in mid-December and is currently available for work.
Elsewhere, Dean Holden, whose most recent role was with Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League as assistant manager to former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard, is 25/1, the same odds as former Southampton boss Russell Martin.
