The 2025/26 Premier League season is underway, and betting sites have updated their odds on all the usual markets.

The relegation battle is one of the most popular betting heats with punters, and this year should be no different.

Sunderland, Leeds and Burnley were favourites for the drop before the season kicked off, but the latter now lead the market after an opening-day defeat.

Sunderland and Leeds were both victorious in their first games, but are still considered to be in danger of making an instant return to the Championship.

Of course, there is always the potential for other teams to struggle, and fans of Everton, Wolves and West Ham will be worried after poor performances to start the campaign.

Here, we look at the main contenders for the drop and some teams that could easily get dragged into a relegation battle.

Burnley Beaten On Return

Burnley have been the ultimate yo-yo club in recent seasons.

The Clarets were promoted to the Premier League in 2023/24 but suffered an instant return to the Championship.

They are now back in the big time and will be hoping to avoid a third relegation in five seasons.

Scott Parker's side registered 30 clean sheets last season, but they struggled to cope with Tottenham's new-look attacking prowess in their opening game.

Burnley were 2/5 joint favourites before the season, but have now shortened to a price of 2/7.

Sunderland Still Odds-On

Sunderland are back in the Premier League after an eight-year absence, and they enjoyed their return with a 3-0 win over a poor West Ham team.

The Black Cats finished fourth in the Championship last season and went on to win the play-offs with a stoppage-time winner against Sheffield United.

French manager Regis Le Bris has done a fantastic job at the Stadium of Light, but he still faces a tough challenge in keeping the club up this season.

Having made many changes to their squad over the summer, it was thought that the Black Cats would struggle to knit together, but they hit the ground running.

Despite this, football betting sites have Sunderland as second favourites for the drop at a price of 8/11.

Leeds Looking Good

Of the three promoted clubs, Leeds were tipped to perform best according to betting apps.

Having pipped Burnley to the Championship title last season, confidence was high at Elland Road as they returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2022/23.

That confidence was justified, as Daniel Farke's side recorded a 1-0 win over Everton with a late penalty from new signing Lukas Nmecha.

It was an impressive performance, and SpreadEx have moved them out to 9/4 for relegation in the aftermath.

Bees Could Struggle With Rookie Boss

Keith Andrews' appointment as manager at Brentford came from left field.

The Irishman had never held the top job in his coaching career, so it was a baptism of fire when the Bees were beaten 3-1 by Nottingham Forest.

Having a rookie boss and the loss of main man Bryan Mbeumo will mean there is a tough season ahead at the Gtech Community Stadium.

With rumours that Yoane Wissa is also set to leave the club, Brentford have been backed from 4/1 to 9/4 to drop out of the Premier League this season.

Wolves Unlucky To Meet Rejuvenated Man City

Wolves were always going to struggle this season without two of their star players.

Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri have moved on, and their absence was evident in the opening day defeat to an in-form Manchester City.

Wolves also got off to a bad start last season under Gary O'Neil, but did enough after the arrival of Vitor Pereira to survive.

It looks like it will be another battle against relegation again this season, and they have shortened to 9/4 with Boylesports for the drop.

West Ham Facing Tough Season

Hopes are always high for West Ham fans as they go into a new season, but they have had little to shout about in recent years.

That could be the case again in 2025/26 if their 3-0 defeat to Sunderland is anything to go by.

Graham Potter has struggled to bring in much-needed additions to his squad so far this summer, and he is now favourite in the Premier League sack race odds.

The Hammers have some of the most passionate fans in the Premier League, but if bookmakers are to be believed, they could be facing another disappointing campaign.

Having been 7/1 for relegation earlier in the summer, West Ham are now 3/1.

Everton Underwhelming In Opener

The 2025/26 season will be a big one for Everton (7/1), but they started poorly, losing 1-0 to Leeds.

The Toffees looked like an average team, and they will need to improve quickly to avoid being left behind early.

Excitement will be in the air as they take on Brighton in their first game at their new stadium next weekend, and David Moyes will be hoping to send the fans home happy.

Fulham Head List Of Outsiders

Fulham (10/1) needed a 97th-minute equaliser to grab a point against Brighton, but are still considered outsiders to finish in the bottom three.

Bournemouth are also 10/1, but there were plenty of positives to take from their 4-2 defeat to Liverpool.

Crystal Palace (10/1) and Nottingham Forest (12/1) enjoyed good starts to the season, and it would be a surprise if either club dropped out of the Premier League this season.
