13:45 Beverley – Baldomero – 1pt @ 12/1

Baldomero is getting on, now an eight-year-old, but he’s down to the lowest mark he has ever had and a talented 5lb claiming apprentice is booked to ride.

All of his recent efforts have come over a furlong further on quick ground and he wasn’t disgraced in any of them, each race being a bit more competitive than would be ideal for him.

The rain coming down is the interesting part, two of his three turf successes coming with an ease underfoot and one of those was on heavy when rated half-a-stone higher.

Blinkers go on for the first time this season, replacing the more regular visor, and the last time this headgear switch happened, he bolted up at Doncaster.

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since then but I think he’ll enjoy the track, his sights are lowered, the shorter trip on testing ground can help and the opposition aren’t as talented as what he has been facing. Any double-figured price makes enough appeal to back him.
