USPGA Championship Betting Tips: McIlroy Made For More Major Magic

Major season continues with this week’s USPGA Championship where Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are the 5/1 co-favourites with betting sites to win at Quail Hollow.
McIlroy heads to one of his favourite courses in buoyant mood, having completed the career grand slam at the US Masters last month.
The course is familiar to many of the players competing at the second major of the season, except world number one Scheffler, who is making his debut at this iconic venue in Charlotte, North Carolina.
For that reason alone, The Panel have decided to skip the American as one of their selections, despite winning his first title of 2025 at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

Defending champion Xander Schauffele was runner-up in his last two visits to Quail Hollow, but a rib injury he sustained just before Christmas meant he effectively missed two months of the season after The Sentry in the first week of the year.
Although the Open champion says he feels “healthy” and that his “game is coming around”, the world number three may be another to avoid this week.
The odds of the last three winners of this major have ranged between 16/1 and 18/1, so with that in mind The Panel have picked out three players from the top of the market for this week’s USPGA Championship betting tips.
USPGA Championship Tips: McIlroy Made For Quail Hollow
Jordan Spieth could join a short list of players to complete the career grand slam this week at what he calls the “Rory McIlroy Country Club”.
It’s a good joke and a telling one because McIlroy’s performances at Quail Hollow over the last 15 years have been truly spectacular.
In 2010, the Northern Irishman won his maiden PGA Tour title at Quail Hollow which hosts the Wells Fargo Championship and he has since lifted the trophy on three other occasions.
That could have been five victories had he managed to win a three-man play-off with DA Points and eventual champion Rickie Fowler in 2012.
McIlroy pinpointed the key to his success at this par-71 track measuring 7,626 yards when he said: "This is a golf course that lets you hit driver a lot and you can really take advantage of length off the tee if you have it.
“It's one of the big factors why I've been able to do so well here over the years."
McIlroy broke his own course record when he shot a third-round 61 en route to a seven-shot victory in 2015 and his fourth win at this course came just 12 months ago, topping the Strokes Gained: Off the Tee stats to beat Schauffele by five shots despite finding the fairways just over 50% of the time.
Tellingly, McIlroy leads the field for that metric on the PGA Tour this season during which he has won three times: the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Players Championship and the US Masters.
There has also been a lot of rain in the area recently which means softer fairways and more receptive greens which should also play into McIlroy's hands.
Everything seems to be falling into place for a third USPGA Championship triumph and McIlroy gets the nod at 5/1 with golf betting sites.

USPGA Championship Tips: DeChambeau The Danger
Aside from Scheffler, McIlroy’s main rival this week could well be Bryson DeChambeau, whose odds have been trimmed in recent days from 11/1 to a best price of 8/1 with betting apps.
Few hit the ball further than The Scientist, who is coming to the boil nicely after ending a 20-month title drought on the LIV Golf Tour with victory in South Korea at the start of the month.
That came a week after his runner-up finish to Joaquin Niemann in Mexico City and fifth place in Miami in early April, so he is on an upward trajectory.
The American also ensured his world ranking remained high with fifth spot at the US Masters, just four shots behind McIlroy, who went on to beat Justin Rose in a play-off.
DeChambeau has played well in his last two visits to Quail Hollow where he finished inside the top 10 on both occasions and his power off the tee is likely to be a dangerous weapon this week.
His length may well take some of the bunkers out of play, especially on the 16th, so he has a big advantage over the rest of the field this week.
The US Open champion has finished no lower than sixth in his last four majors on American soil and should be challenging the top of the leaderboard on Sunday night.
USPGA Championship Prediction 2: Bryson DeChambeau Win Only 1pt - 8/1 With William Hill
USPGA Championship Predictions: No Doubting Thomas
The omens are looking good for a big performance from Justin Thomas, who is 18/1 with Betfred to repeat his USPGA Championship success from 2017 which came at Quail Hollow.
Thomas ended a three-year drought with his play-off victory over Andrew Novak at the RBC Heritage just four weeks ago and his recent form has been excellent.
Runner-up finishes at Copperhead and last week’s Truist Championship, the new sponsor which has replaced Wells Fargo, suggest a third USPGA victory is just around the corner.
Those three performances have propelled Thomas into the world’s top five and he stands fifth in the Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green stats, so he should go well at a course where he has finished inside the top 30 in each of his last five visits.
USPGA Championship Prediction 3: Justin Thomas (Each-Way) - 18/1 With Betfred
