Ontario sports betting got off to quite a bang with what happened Tuesday between the Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

We’ll look at what happened there later as we discuss some of the best NHL betting options for the five game slate for Canada NHL teams tonight.

Let’s begin in Winnipeg.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are up against it for the final wildcard spot in the Western Conference. The Jets need wins and some help as well.

Losing two straight games over the weekend put Winnipeg seven points in the hole with just 12 games remaining.

With the Jets battling apathy of sorts as the season has gone sideways, they will still rely heavily on Connor Hellebuyck. As long as they have a faint heartbeat in the playoff race, Hellebuyck will play.

For what it is worth, the goaltender has been spectacular in goal four of the past five games (3-2 in those five starts).

What has value appeal from this game?

Detroit is far from the same team on the road as it is at home. Overall, this team gives up 3.82 goals per game and is dead last with a penalty kill of 72%.

Now, Winnipeg’s offense rises and sets on some of its younger players like Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor. Yes, Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler are the established duos. However, the former is more relevant than the latter regarding sustained success.

Also, the over is at 6.5 (2.00).

This Detroit and Winnipeg game should feature some goals. Winnipeg is an odd team that can allow three goals at home in a blink.

The one thing it allows is a high volume of shots. Hellebuyck has faced 75 shots in his previous two starts.

This one trend to mention is the moneyline spreading out on some sites like FanDuel, etc. Ontario sports bettors are going to notice this right away. It is why tending to bets like the moneyline,

Winnipeg team over, and even a win in regulation may be more prudent on Wednesday.

Let’s look back at Toronto and then ahead to Vancouver to close it out.

About last night with the Toronto Maple Leafs

As many have said, the playoff spot is sealed for the Toronto Maple Leafs. It comes down to who they will play. For one thing, no matter who that opponent is, one thing will be common.

Chaos.

That’s right. Chaos. The Toronto Maple Leafs had a 5-1 lead on the road against the Florida Panthers, and then it happened. Florida roared back, knocked Erik Kallgren out of the game, and even took a 6-5 lead. Toronto, predictably, tied the game to send it into overtime.

What followed next was several minutes of 3-on-3 fun before Jonathan Huberdeau ended the night with the game-winning goal. The Overs smashed in this game as expected and will be good for conjecture come four weeks from now when the playoffs start.

There was so much to absorb from that game from a wagering perspective. One aspect that remains true is this: Teams like Florida and Toronto make the playoffs entertaining. O’ Canada, you are in for some wild betting ride the next several months.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Vegas Golden Knights

Online sports betting gets to be fun anytime crunch time is entered. For this, we mean the final month of any regular season. When urgency is raised, the stakes go up, and the excitement does too.

For Vancouver, it is getting late, fast. What do we mean? The Canucks are nine points out of the second wildcard spot with 12 games remaining.

Their schedule is daunting and they have Vegas and Winnipeg to hop and then hope to see one other team stumble precipitously.

Vancouver goes on the road tonight and are significant underdogs (2.4) against Vegas.

Thatcher Demko has returned to Earth and suffered three overtime losses in his previous five starts. That includes one on Sunday night at home to the same Vegas team.

The problem for Vancouver is the Knights have the momentum. Vegas has won five straight games and seven out of 10. The Canucks have lost three straight and are trending in the wrong direction. Vancouver has the offense behind guys like J.T. Miller, Brock Boeser, and Bo Horvat to stop the bleeding. The problem is can Thatcher Demko play as he did in Dallas recently.

The puckline for Vancouver (1.56) and the Over of just 5.5 goals are options to look at for this game.
