Raptors Insights

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced yesterday that SF Scottie Barnes has been selected as an injury replacement for the 2024 Allstar Game. Barnes becomes the youngest player since Chris Bosh (2006), and ninth overall in franchise history, to earn an All-Star selection. Through the first 50 games of the season, Barnes is averaging career highs of 20.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals. Barnes leads the team in total minutes played (1,763), points (1,012), rebounds (403), blocks (74), and steals (62).

That’s nice piece of news in a season that’s become bleaker as games have gone on, with the team electing to make this season about roster tear-down and rebuild for future years. The trade deadline is tomorrow at 3 p.m. EST – with Sportsnet saying this morning that Chris Boucher and Bruce Brown are potential trade candidates.

The Raptors have lost three in a row – most recently a 138-100 beatdown Monday night at the hands of the New Orleans Pelicans. SG RJ Barrett is expected to be back in the lineup after sitting out Monday’s game, resting a knee. Barrett has averaged 21.1 points since coming over from the New York Knicks in that December trade.

The Raptors are as healthy as they’ve been in a while – starters tonight are Barrett, Barnes, C Jakob Poeltl, SG Gary Trent Jr. and PG Immanuel Quickley.

Hornets Insights

The Hornets are awful (10-39), losers of eight in a row. A comeback effort against the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night fell short, and they lost the game 124-118.

SF Miles Bridges leads the team with a PTS/G average of 21.3. Maybe you missed it - but former Raptor PG Kyle Lowry was traded to the Hornets in late January (he could be on the move again tomorrow as well), and he’s averaging four assists per game. Lowry is injured and won’t play tonight.

Player Props

According to DraftKings, Brandon Miller Over 21.5 Points (1.95), Barnes Over 20.5 Points (1.83), Miller Points + Rebounds Over 25.5 (1.80) are the most bet player props.

Spread -7 1.91 (Raptors), +7 1.91 (Hornets)

Over/Under 225.5

On the NBA betting front, for this one, we’re expecting a big game from Barnes. The Raptors have dominated the series in recent seasons. The Hornets are 5-20 at home. Go with the Raptors ATS, seeing as they’re the healthier of the two teams. The Over might seem a good bet as well, if those most bet player prop numbers are any indication, with a lot of bettors leaning on Miller Over 25.5 Points. Bettors no doubt see his points per game average of late – 29.2 in his last five games.
