How We Rank & Review NFL Betting Sites

When looking for NFL betting sites, we consider several factors to ensure you find a platform that suits your needs.

Regulation & Security

First and foremost, our reviewers prioritize safety and legal compliance in the registration process. All our recommended NFL betting sites are fully secure and regulated by your local governing authorities.

Hands-On Testing

Choosing the best site encompasses multiple attributes, including odds, bonuses, mobile performance, and more. Our team of experienced betting experts personally signs up for NFL betting sites, places real-money wagers, cashes out winnings, and uses betting promotions.

Gambling.com Rating System

Then, they assign each sportsbook a score of 10 in different categories. All categories are weighted equally and averaged together to give an overall score out of 10.

These criteria include:

  • Sports & Markets: Sites must offer various betting markets, ensuring plenty of choice for bettors.
  • Payments: Platforms should support a variety of payment options, including debit cards and e-wallets, with seamless transactions and swift payout processing, often within 24 hours.
  • Customer Support: Great customer support, including live chat, email, and toll-free phone support, indicates a proper NFL betting experience. Our experts test all available customer service methods to evaluate response times and the agents' ability to resolve problems.
  • Reputation & User Feedback: Our recommended sites come from companies with respected reputations, as identified through regulatory compliance, user feedback, and industry awards.
  • Site UX: Experts look for a seamless betting process, straightforward account registration, intuitive navigation, and robust accessibility features. A site's speed, stability, and responsiveness heavily influence this grade.
  • Mobile Product & Features: Top platforms offer dedicated betting apps for a swift, hassle-free experience on iPhone and Android devices. These apps must employ geolocation to ensure bettors can access their legal markets, no matter where they are.
  • Responsible Gambling: NFL betting sites should offer various responsible gambling tools, including cooling-off periods, limits, and self-exclusion lists. These tools should be accessible and easy to find for any bettor.
  • Live & In-Play Betting: We expect modern online bookmakers to provide a seamless live betting experience with a wide range of in-play markets and special offers. The availability of NFL live streams is a significant plus.
  • Odds Value: Competitive odds are the lifeblood of any good NFL betting site. Reviewers compare NFL odds across various platforms for identical markets to highlight those offering the most value.

How to Bet on NFL Games Online

The sign-up process should be easy to navigate.

  1. Find a Sportsbook: Choose an NFL betting site that best suits your needs.
  2. Create an Account & Deposit: Visit the sign-up page, register a new account by entering personal details, and choose a username and password. After creating the account, make a deposit to begin placing bets.
  3. Choose an NFL Bet to Place: Decide on the type of NFL bet you want to make.

Popular NFL Bets & Markets

  • Moneyline: This is the most straightforward type of NFL bet. Choose which team will win a specific game, regardless of the margin of victory or final score. The favorite team will have negative odds, while underdogs will have positive odds.
  • Point Spread: This bet focuses on the margin of victory. Sportsbooks assign the favorite a negative spread (e.g., -7 points), meaning they must win by more than that number to "cover the spread." The underdog will have a positive spread (e.g., +3.5), meaning they must win outright or lose by fewer points than the spread to "cover." This is similar to handicap betting in other sports.
  • Over/Under (Totals): This market is based on the combined final score of both teams. Bettors wager on whether the total points will be over or under the number set by the sportsbook.
  • Prop Bets: These bets allow you to wager on specific events that do not directly affect the game's outcome. Examples include anytime touchdown scorer or players' total passing or rushing yards.
  • Parlays: A parlay bet combines multiple wagers into one bet. All "legs" (individual bets) in the parlay must win for the overall bet to be successful. Parlays can span several NFL games, and the odds are multiplied for potentially big payouts. In some regions, parlays are known as accumulators.
  • Same-Game Parlay (SGP) or Bet Builder: SGPs operate like standard parlays but combine multiple bets from the same game into a single wager. These can include a mix of prop bets and totals, moneyline, or point spread selections.
  • Teasers: This is a type of parlay where you adjust the point spread within a parlay to increase your chances of winning, typically resulting in shorter odds and smaller potential payouts.
  • Futures (Outrights): These are bets placed on events that will resolve in the future, such as the Super Bowl winner, division winners, or individual year-end award winners. These odds fluctuate throughout the season.
  • Live Betting (In-Game Betting): This allows bettors to wager on NFL games while being played. As the game unfolds, odds are updated in real time, enabling bettors to take advantage of changing momentum.

NFL Betting Strategies

  1. Use your head, not your heart

Use your head, not your heart

While betting on your favorite team is common, it can be misguided. Consider factors like team form, opponent strength, and player injuries rather than emotional bias.

  2. Home field advantage

    Home field advantage

This can be significant in the NFL, benefiting teams with stadium familiarity and crowd support. Travel fatigue can also affect away teams. Some bettors use the strategy of placing a bet on an underdog with home-field advantage.

  3. Check the weather

    Check the weather

Weather conditions like snow, rain, or strong winds can drastically impact game performance, especially for passing teams. Bad weather often favors teams with strong running games and defenses.

  4. Do your research

    Do your research

With the abundance of stats and analytics, research is vitally important. Digging deep into statistics, studying trends, and following news about player injuries can provide a significant advantage. Following advice from a betting expert with proven performance can also be beneficial.

  5. Understand the point spread

    Understand the point spread

Research how teams perform "against the spread" (ATS), as some consistently cover it. Assess if the spread seems exaggerated due to public favoritism.

  6. Look for value in underdogs

    Look for value in underdogs

Underdogs can offer better value, especially given the NFL's high-variance nature. Study matchups, considering injuries, home-field advantage, and weather.

  7. Monitor injuries & player news

    Monitor injuries & player news

Injuries can drastically shift betting lines, especially those to key players like quarterbacks. Keeping up with injury reports is essential; timing your bets around these shifts can secure better odds.

  8. Use live betting for tactical adjustments

Use live betting for tactical adjustments

Live betting allows bettors to adjust based on the game's progress. Observing initial play or mid-game injuries can reveal insights into team strategies and prompt quick decisions to find value.

How Does the NFL Work?

The National Football League (NFL) is America's most popular and dominant sports league—and by far the most bet-on league in the country. Significant events like Thanksgiving Day, the playoffs, and the Super Bowl attract a lot of betting attention, as do the weekly games throughout the season.

NFL games are mostly played on Sundays with multiple games happening simultaneously, but prime-time games are also scheduled on Monday and Thursday nights. Because of that, the NFL lends itself well to live betting and mobile betting.

Regular Season

It includes 32 individual teams, which are split into the American and National Conferences (16 teams in each). Each conference has four divisions, each with four teams.

The regular season runs from September to January, and each team plays 17 games over 18 weeks. Each team plays its division opponents twice (one home and one away), which accounts for six of the 17 matchups. The other 11 come against other divisions throughout the league.

NFL Playoffs

The top seven teams in each conference enter the playoffs at the end of the regular season. The four division winners automatically qualify, as do three wild-card teams (teams with the best records outside the division winners).

There are three rounds before the Super Bowl: the Wild Card Round, the Divisional Round, and the Conference Championships. Each round is single elimination, with the winners advancing to the following round.

The winners of the Conference Championships are crowned the champions of the AFC or NFC, and they go on to represent the conference in the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is played between the AFC and NFC champions. It's held at a pre-determined neutral site, and cities bid to host it years in advance.

The winner of the Super Bowl is awarded the Lombardi Trophy.

Responsible Gambling with NFL Betting Sites

NFL betting sites, along with the league itself, take responsible gambling seriously. The NFL season kicks off in September every year, which coincides with Responsible Gambling Education Month.

The league has a three-year partnership with the National Council on Problem Gambling, which funds the National Problem Gambling Helpline, the Agility Grants program (which serves underserved communities affected by problem gambling), and awareness efforts like the ResponsiblePlay.org website.

NFL players are prohibited from betting on NFL games to maintain the sport's integrity and prevent conflicts of interest. Violations can lead to fines and major suspensions.

Internally, the NFL assigns an integrity representative to each team to monitor for suspicious activity on site. Genius Sports and Integrity Compliance 360 also monitor every game and significant events for any betting activity indicating game manipulation or nonpublic information leaks.

If they feel their betting is out of control, bettors can utilize self-exclusion lists, set cooling off or timeout periods, and limit deposits, wagers, and time spent on platforms. Resources like problem gambling helplines and location-specific treatment are available for those struggling.
