Canada’s first World Cup since 1986 sees it as a +18000 underdog to win the entire thing and this should not be a surprise.

The Canadians might be behind countries like the United States in the odds list, but it is ahead of nations like Japan and Ghana, while also being the same odds as group rivals Morocco.

With around five months to go, we look ahead to Canada’s early World Cup odds, including its best chance at winning the Golden Boot, its own group, and the individual matches.

Odds For Canada To Win the Group

Canada will battle it out in Group F of the World Cup with Belgium, Croatia and Morocco. The latter have the same odds to win the entire tournament, but oddly enough, Morocco is ahead of Canada at +900 to win the group.

In its first World Cup in 36 years, Canada is +1100 to win the group. The reason for that is pretty clear. Belgium is one of the favourites to win the 2022 World Cup just as it was in 2018. Croatia made it to the final four years ago.

If Alphonso Davies and co. are to win Group F, they’ll most likely need to beat either Croatia or Belgium, or perhaps both. This is unlikely, but Croatia upset the odds by reaching the final in 2018, so nothing can be ruled out.

The soccer betting odds to qualify out of Group F are: Belgium -800, Croatia -180, Morocco is +180 and Canada +260. If Canada can get a win against Croatia, +260 to qualify may seem like a good bet heading into the final group game against Morocco.

To Beat Belgium and Croatia

The chances of Canada being able to beat these two top nations aren’t high, according to the sportsbooks.

FanDuel Sportsbook prices Canada at +800 to beat the Belgians in its opening game. To put that in perspective, only Saudi Arabia (+1300) against Argentina, Costa Rica (+950) against Spain, Iran (+850) against England, and Australia (+1200) against France are priced higher in the opening weekend.

Four days later, Canada is +350 to beat Croatia. On the other hand, odds are likely to change for this one after the first game against Belgium, and they could swing either way depending on that result.

Odds are currently not live for the final game against Morocco, but if there is a chance of Canada getting a win this World Cup, it’s going to be against the African side.

Canada’s Best Chance at a Golden Boot

All eyes of the soccer world are going to be on the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Harry Kane, and others in relation to the Golden Boot.

On the other hand, if Canada is to see one of its own players get the top scorer award, the best chances are Cyle Larin, Davies, and Jonathan David, all priced at +10000.

More than 40 players are ahead of them all on the odds list to win the Golden Boot, but to the credit of Larin, he is the national team's all-time top goal scorer with 24 goals in 52 games, while Davies already has 12 goals in 32 caps and David comes into the World Cup with 21 goals in 32 caps.

As the odds suggest, a Golden Boot is incredibly unlikely for each of them, and goals must be scored against Belgium, Croatia or Morocco in the group stages to ensure they have a chance of winning the award.

In fact, the last time a player won the Golden Boot by playing just the three group games was Oleg Salenko of Russia in 1994, when he managed to score five goals in one game against Cameroon on his way to scoring six in total. If the Canadian players aim to win the Golden Boot, something similar may need to happen.
