After seemingly months of speculation about his position, Frank Lampard was relieved of his duties as Everton manager on Monday and betting sites have priced up the odds on who may replace him.

With the Toffees marooned in 19th place in the Premier League, the Everton board finally sacked Frank Lampard on the back of a 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the weekend.

In what was effectively billed as a ‘loser leaves town’ game with their fellow relegation candidates it was Everton who blinked first, as a first half brace from Jarrod Bowen sent them to their 11th league defeat of the season.

That loss meant Lampard had taken just one measly point from the last 21 on offer and ultimately that was enough for the club’s embattled board to show the former Chelsea and Derby manager the exit door.

Whoever takes over from the ex-England international has a heck of a job on their hands, as the relationship between the club and its supporters has completely broken down in recent weeks leading to fan protests and alleged threats made against Everton directors

Everton sit as second favourites in the Premier League relegation odds as things stand, so with all this going on we’ve looked at the odds to see who is most likely to be the next person in the Goodison Park dugout.

Dyche Has Kept Worse Teams In The Premier League

Sean Dyche has been linked with virtually every available Premier League job this season, but he remains out of work at the beginning of 2023.

The main thing that counts against the ex-Burnley boss is a perception of his favoured style of play.

It is fair to say the Clarets never won any aesthetic awards during his time at the helm.

But Dyche’s track record speaks for itself. He continually kept Burnley in the Premier League against the odds, and he might even have done so last term had he not been sacked in April.

On paper at least, the Burnley sides he led to safety were inferior to the current crop at Everton. However, there is now major speculation that Dyche is in pole position to take the post after meeting with the club's bosses in London.

Odds of 8/11 on football betting sites could be worth taking up, especially if the Toffees want someone who knows how to get out of trouble in the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa Now A Strong Posibility

As the maverick manager that rescued Leeds United from football’s doldrums, Marcelo Bielsa would no doubt be a hugely popular appointment with the Everton faithful.

Bielsa took a Whites side who finished 13th in the Championship in the 2017–18 season to not only a long-awaited promotion and Championship title in 2020, but also achieved a ninth-place finish in the Premier League in their first term back in the top flight the following year.

The Argentine is a revered coach throughout world football, but things did fall apart for him at Leeds towards the end as an injury-ravaged Leeds team went down to a series of heavy defeats last season.

However, Bielsa still left Elland Road as an icon and to huge sadness from the club’s supporters.

While he might just be the right coach to turn Everton’s season around, it had seemed unlikely that we’ll see him take the post at Goodison Park despite his 13/8 odds with BetVictor for several reasons.

Firstly, the legendary coach’s unique playing style takes time to implement and for players to learn – something that Everton just do not have in the current situation.

He also likes stability at board level and has left positions at the drop of a hat in the past when he felt promises to him have not been kept - and with the current chaos dogging the Everton board, it is doubtful Bielsa will fancy this rescue project.

However, he did fly to London on Thursday to meet with the club's hierarchy, ramping up speculation of a return to the Premier League for the ex-Leeds boss. But, reports have since emerged that Bielsa has rejected the chance to take over at Everton

Rooney’s Price Has Lengthened In Recent Weeks

A few weeks ago, Wayne Rooney was the heavy favourite to be Everton’s next manager.

But his price has drifted to 12/1 with Bet365, as Dyche and Bielsa are now considered more likely to take the reins at the embattled Merseyside club.

That might be because of Rooney’s lack of experience. He has never managed in the Premier League before, having only taken charge of Derby County and DC United.

That would not necessarily prevent him getting a top-flight job in the summer months, but handing him such a delicate situation in the middle of the season would be a risk.

Rooney may well manage Everton one day - and were they to go down, he would stand a decent chance of getting the role next season - but he is likely to remain in the United States for now.

Second Coming For Moyes Amid West Ham Trouble?

Just as Lampard was on the brink of the sack last weekend, David Moyes could have also lost his job as West Ham manager if they were defeated by Everton on Saturday.

However, it was Moyes who took home bragging rights after a convincing victory at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Whereas many expected Everton to be involved in the Premier League relegation battle this term, West Ham's position just outside the bottom three at the midway point of the campaign is a surprise.

Despite the win last time out, Hammers fans have begun to turn against Moyes - even though they acknowledge he did an excellent job before this season.

If the Scot does depart east London sooner rather than later, he could secure an immediate return to management by his former club Everton if Dyche joins Bielsa in rejecting the role for some reason - as such Moyes is 14/1 to succeed Lampard.

Nuno Or Big Sam Seem Unlikely

Sam Allardyce would not be a popular appointment at Goodison Park.

He did lead Everton to safety in 2017/18, but he never won the supporters over and it was no surprise to see him depart at the end of that campaign.

Allardyce’s last firefighting job did not go well, as West Bromwich Albion were relegated on his watch in 2020/21.

He has been out of work since then and odds of 16/1 at Ladbrokes show that he will probably not be next in line at Everton.

Nuno Espirito Santo is available at odds of 20/1. He has Premier League experience and would make Everton more organised defensively, but he does not appear to be near the top of the club’s shortlist.
