The calm, clinical, stable jockey to Willie Mullins, Paul Townend arrived at the Cheltenham Festival as the modern benchmark.

Sitting on 38 Festival wins going into day one, Townend added to his tally with a smooth performance on star mare Lossiemouth in the Champion Hurdle.

Day two reaped even more rewards for the Irish Champion jockey, with King Rasko Grey and Il Etait Temps both scoring, but surprisingly drew a blank the following day.

With another nice book of rides on the final day, he will be hoping to defend his top jockey title yet again.
