Spanish Open Golf Betting Tips: 5 Selections From The Panel

The DP World Tour heads to Madrid for this week’s Spanish Open where Ryder Cup hero Jon Rahm starts as the 3/1 favourite on betting sites to win this tournament for a fourth time.
However, Angel Hidalgo is the defending champion following his play-off victory over Rahm at the second extra hole last year.
Shane Lowry is also in the field and priced at 22/1 to repeat what Robert MacIntyre did by winning his first tournament since Europe’s glorious win at the Ryder Cup.
This week’s venue, the Club de Campo de Villa de Madrid, is a lengthy par-71 course at 7,112 yards, but wide fairways will favour long hitters.
However, the smallish, multi-tiered greens can be tricky to find and it should be noted that four of the last five winners on this course have ranked high in the Strokes Gained: Putting stats.
The Panel enjoyed a 16/5 winner with Joakim Lagergren finishing inside the top 20 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and Calum Hill was one shot out from a top 30 at the same price.
Those markets are once again included in this week’s Spanish Open golf betting tips, but The Panel start with the first of their three outright selections, concentrating mainly on those that can take advantage of the three shortish par-fives.
Spanish Open Golf Tips: Pick Puig For Home Success
Rahm was on the shortlist at 5/1 for a third victory on this course, but those odds have since been shortened to 3/1 with most golf betting sites, so The Panel are looking at another big-hitting Spaniard instead.
David Puig failed to win on this year’s LIV Golf Tour, but still finished in the top 10 of the individual standings on the back of some excellent perfromances.
Indeed, the 23-year-old Catalonian had three top fours – admittedly all outside Europe – and never finished higher than 20th in all 12 tournaments.
Only Joaquin Niemann, Bryson DeChambeau and Dean Burmester hit the ball further than Puig on average in 2025 and crucially he was in the top five for putting, although LIV Golf does not use the Strokes Gained measurement.
Twelve months ago, Puig was in the last group with Rahm and Hidalgo, but could only shoot par which still left him in a tie for third.
Both of Puig’s victories came in Asia, but this course looks perfect for him to break his duck at elite level in Europe, especially in a tournament which has treated the home contingent so well in recent years.
Puig kicks off this week’s Spanish Open golf tips at 18/1.

Spanish Open Predictions: Stick With McKibbin
The Panel were on board LIV golfer Tom McKibbin in weather-hit Scotland last week and see no reason to desert him for the trip to the Spanish capital.
McKibbin was launching a title challenge after an opening-round 65 on the Old Course, but the wind and rain dented his chances as he shot a quadruple bogey on the final hole at Carnoustie.
However, a 68 at Kingbarns on Sunday meant he finished in 15th place over the 54 holes. Had he made a par at Carnoustie at the last he would have been looking at a share of second with Tyrrell Hatton.
McKibbin is very long off the tee and although his putting could be better, the Northern Irishman finds plenty of greens to give himself opportunities.
Encouragingly, he had positive SG: Putting numbers last week and was just outside the top 10 for greens in regulation, a skill which should stand him in good stead in Spain.

Spanish Open Golf Odds: Del Rey Can Reign Supreme
With Spaniards winning four of the last five editions on this course, The Panel are keen to get another on board and with that in mind, Alejandro del Rey looks an interesting pick at 90/1 with a couple of betting apps.
Del Rey gives it a decent whack off the tee and although his greens in regulation statistics have been poor this season, his putting has been excellent.
The world number 234 finished just outside the top 20 in Scotland and he has shot seven sub-par rounds in his last two visits to this course.
Those performances proved good enough for top-20 finishes on both occasions, so his confidence should be high heading to a track where he clearly thrives.
Spanish Open Betting Tips 3: Alejandro Del Rey (Each-Way) - 90/1 With PricedUp (Six Places)

Spanish Open Top 20 Tips: Clements Can Compete
Todd Clements has enjoyed a couple of decent outings in Madrid in the last couple of years and his recent form also suggests he could go well this week.
The 29-year-old from Colchester has just one DP World Tour victory to his name which came at the 2023 Czech Masters where he finished ahead of Matt Wallace, MacIntyre, the Hojgaard twins and Ludvig Aberg.
That suggests he has it in him to perform well against quality opposition, but instead of going for an each-way punt, The Panel fancy Clements to post a top 20 at 9/4 with Bet365.
Clements followed an encouraging 10th spot with 15th on the north-east coast of Scotland, so momentum is clearly with the man from Essex.
Inside the top 40 on his Madrid debut, Clements finished 13th a year ago, so he knows he has the ability to tame this course.

Spanish Open Top 20 Tips: Zone In On Zander
The last of The Panel’s Spanish Open betting tips is for Zander Lombard also to finish in the top 20 at 9/2 with Betfred.
The South African has a brilliant record at this course where he has posted three top 10s in his last four visits.
Lombard may be entitled to be feeling tired as he prepares to play in his 10th successive tournament, but he was just one shot outside the top 20 in Scotland – his best performance over that long stretch.
Another negative is that his GIR and putting stats this year have been pretty awful, but he hit plenty of greens last week and he was only just in negative numbers with the flatstick using the Strokes Gaines measure.
At a course where he tends to perform well, he could be worth a whirl as an each-way bet at 150/1 (Bet365 is offering eight places at 100/1), but The Panel are taking the safer option.
