Who Will Land This Year's Christmas No 1 In The UK?

The Christmas No 1 used to regularly change hands each year, but a repeat winner looks to have already wrapped up this year's title if betting sites are anything to go by.
Wham!'s 1984 tune Last Christmas has landed the festive prize in the last two years - after ending LadBaby's run of five successive Christmas No 1s - and the late, great George Michael's top tune is in line to score a hat-trick this year.
Despite the song's short price to achieve further kudos this Christmas, some of the other major artists in contention may soon shorten up and, like Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, swoop in and take all the glory.
UK Christmas No 1s Since 2015:
Year | Artist | Song |
2015 | Lewisham & | A Bridge Over You |
2016 | Clean Bandit | Rockabye |
2017 | Ed Sheeran | Perfect |
2018 | LadBaby | We Built This City |
2019 | LadBaby | I Love Sausage Rolls |
2020 | LadBaby | Don't Stop Me Eatin' |
2021 | LadBaby | Sausage Rolls For Everyone |
2022 | LadBaby | Food Aid |
2023 | Wham! | Last Christmas |
2024 | Wham! | Last Christmas |
Wham! Vs Kylie
For now, Wham! are the 4/9 favourites to make it three Christmas No 1 wins on the trot.
The song agonisingly missed out on top spot when it was first released in December 1984 - after it was pipped to the post by Band Aid’s worthy winner Do They Know It’s Christmas? - but Wham! have more than made up for that festive disappointment.
George Michael's estate divides Last Christmas' proceeds up to various charities, and it will be extremely tough to beat this year.

However, Wham!'s biggest competition on entertainment betting sites looks to be Kylie Minogue.
The pop princess is 6/1 to be this year's Christmas No 1 with her Amazon Music Original tune XMAS.
The song can only be downloaded on the streaming service, but the Neighbours star's festive effort is also one of the first played when someone asks an Alexa to blast out Christmas tunes.
Certain bookmakers clearly think it is in with a chance of defeating Last Christmas, because it is as short as 4/1 with some, but Kylie will need to be Lucky Lucky Lucky if she is to land her first-ever Crimbo No 1.
While Wham! are her biggest competition, according to betting apps, Kylie believes her nearest challenger might be Mariah Carey.
Asked whether she can dethrone so-called "Queen of Christmas" Mariah and be crowned this year's festive No 1, Kylie told the Daily Star newspaper: "Honestly, I haven’t been thinking about that.
"That’s like trying to stop a tidal wave. No, MC will always be Christmas. But hey, we’ll see. It would make me feel like it’s 1988 again, which would be a lot of fun."
All She Wants For Christmas Is No 1
While many see Mariah as festive royalty, quite incredibly her tune All I Want For Christmas has never been crowned Christmas No 1 in the UK.
Despite Minogue fearing Mariah in a bid to land the coveted title, Carey is a 16/1 outsider to hit top spot this year.
While the festive tune hasn't been Christmas No 1 on the UK Singles Chart, it has been in the top 40 every year since 2007 and finished third in the festive battle last year.
However, the song has been Xmas No 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the past six years.
"When I wrote [it], I had absolutely no
idea the impact the song would eventually
have worldwide," Carey told Billboard
"I’m so full of gratitude that so many people enjoy it with me every year."
Other outsiders who could move into contention include Alison Limerick's Where Love Lives, the 1990 house tune recently covered by Labrinth for this year's John Lewis Christmas advert.
Alison is a best priced 18/1 for this year's Christmas No 1.
Swift To Surge Up The Festive Charts?
While Mariah can never be underestimated in a chart battle, particularly a Christmas one, neither can fellow pop megastar Taylor Swift.
She already has plenty of reason to celebrate this Christmas after getting engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce earlier this year, and releasing another top album in The Life of a Showgirl.
Taylor is now a 16/1 shot to land her first-ever Christmas No 1 with one of the record's tunes, Opalite, which is believed to be about Kelce because his birthstone is opal.
Swift recently dropped a huge hint she is aiming for the festive top spot when she flew to London to shoot a Christmas-inspired music video for Opalite.
Taylor enlisted some showbiz pals, singer Lewis Capaldi and actor Domhnall Gleeson for the video, which is said to have been shot at the partially-derelict Whitgift shopping centre in the south London borough of Croydon.
An insider told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "This video was shrouded in secrecy, with Taylor’s security team working day and night to ensure she wasn’t sighted at any point. It was like a military operation."
While Taylor is a double-figure price to be this year's Christmas No 1, can you ever rule the singer and her Swifties out?
She's won countless awards since shooting to fame in the 2000s, but the UK's Christmas No 1 is one title that has eluded the You Belong With Me hitmaker.

Swift will also face competition from McFly star Tom Fletcher and his song One of Us, which he wrote and performs in Paddington The Musical.
However, the bear doesn't look likely to be celebrating a Christmas No 1 this year, because the tune is a 25/1 outsider to be a festive hit.
