Manchester United vs Rangers Prediction

Say what you like about Manchester United, it's never boring following the Red Devils as the so-called worst team in the club's history prepares to take on Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday (3pm, DAZN).

Last Sunday's home loss to Brighton - United's fourth in the last five games at Old Trafford - prompted head coach Ruben Amorim to publicly question whether he'd inherited the worst roster ever seen in United's 147-year history.

The Portuguese is also reported to have smashed a TV in the locker room, such was his anger at United's seventh defeat since he replaced Erik ten Hag as manager.

Amorim's return of 11 points from 11 Premier League games is the worst start by a United manager in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era with some betting sites cutting them to +2500 to be relegated from the EPL.

A return to Europa League action may offer Amorim some respite though. The Red Devils have won their last two European outings under the ex-Sporting Lisbon coach, leaving them in seventh in the Europa League table.

Rangers are one point and one place behind Thursday's opponents, and with the top eight going through to the round of 16 automatically, neither will want to slip any further heading into the final round of league matches next week.

Gers are also struggling domestically, trailing Celtic by 13 points in the Scottish Premier League, but have won their last three games in all competitions and are unbeaten on the road in Europe this season.

It seems like anything can happen when United play right now and that makes betting on them treacherous. But Amorim's outburst may just generate the kind of reaction he was hoping for.

Manchester United vs Rangers Betting Picks: Back to Winning Ways For United

United were outclassed by Brighton last weekend, just a few days removed from needing an Amad Diallo hat-trick to save them from dropping points to bottom of the table Southampton at home.

These performances came after two of the best showings United had produced under Amorim when drawing away to Liverpool in the league and beating Arsenal in the FA Cup on penalties.

It's tough to know which United are going to show up right now, but they've shown they are capable of better and in the Europa League at least, they are finding ways to win.

Rasmus Højlund epitomizes United's contrasting fortunes, struggling in EPL matches to make an impact but finding the back of the net regularly in Europe, so much so he's the competition's joint topscorer with five goals.

The Red Devils have been fairly free-flowing in the Europa League, but so have Rangers, who have netted 13 times in six games, including scoring four in their last road game at French side Nice.

Philippe Clement's side have had an extra spring in their step since beating Celtic 3-0 to start the year, but their form on the road, coupled with a fairly lengthy list of absentees, makes them tough to trust.

They are winless in four on their travels and have conceded two or more goals on recent trips to Motherwell, St Mirren and Hibernian.

Rangers have only ever won once away at an English club in Europe, beating Leeds in 1992, and a leaky defense may well cost them the chance to add to that solitary victory.

Soccer betting sites are expecting goals and a United win, with both the home side and over 2.5 goals offering prohibitive odds.

But where betting apps may have a blind spot is with the pricing of United to win and both teams to score. Rangers are full of goals right now, while the Red Devils haven't had a shutout in 12 attempts.

Manchester United vs Rangers Europa League Odds: Don't Sleep on Cerny

With the stats and odds suggesting a high-scoring game, it's worth checking out the goalscorer options on Ontario sportsbooks.

United players dominant the top of most goalscorer markets, but scroll down a little and you'll come to Rangers's Vaclav Cerny.

He's +550 to score anytime, but we've gone for him at +335 in the score or assist market to add to the 16 goal involvements he has this season.

The Czech forward has netted 12 times in the SPL and Europa League, with only Hamza Igmane (13) scoring more for the Gers.

He's also got four assists in those competitions, including three goal involvements in his last five appearances.

We've seen wingers have plenty of joy against United of late - two of Brighton's three goals were scored by wide forwards - and Cerny looks to have been undervalued by established and new betting sites alike.

Manchester United vs Rangers Pick 2: Vaclav Cerny to score or assist (+335 NorthStar Bets)
