French Open Tips:

The world’s best tennis players have descended upon Paris to vie for glory in the 2023 French Open at Stade Roland Garros.

UK betting sites make world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz the favourite to win the men’s singles event, as he is a clay court specialist.

Fourteen-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal has pulled out after struggling with a hip injury, and he is now gearing up to retire next year.

That has paved the way for Alcaraz - widely seen as Nadal’s heir apparent - to lift the trophy, but he will face fierce competition from the likes of Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.

Iga Swiatek is the heavy favourite for the women’s singles tournament, as she boasts a terrific record at Roland Garros.

We have broken down our top winner picks and each-way picks for the tournament below.

Back Djokovic To Burnish His GOAT Credentials

Novak Djokovic will become the most decorated male tennis player of all time if he wins the French Open.

The 36-year-old Serbian superstar is currently level with Nadal on a joint-record 22 Grand Slams apiece, and he will pull clear of his rival if he prevails in Paris.

Clay has always been his weakest surface, and he has only won the French Open twice, compared to 10 Australian Open titles, seven Wimbledon titles and three US Open titles.

However, that has largely been down to Nadal’s brilliance, as he has lost to the Spaniard eight times at the French Open - including three finals.

Last year, they met in the quarter-finals and Djokovic lost an epic four-set battle, meaning he is now 2-8 against Nadal at the French Open, but 30-29 overall.

He now has a golden opportunity to lift the trophy in his great rival’s absence, and it will be difficult for any of his opponents to stop him.

Djokovic has won five of the last seven Grand Slams he has competed in, including a dominant Australian Open victory earlier this year.

His record at the French Open is still impressive - 85 wins and 16 defeats during his career - and he has reached the final on five occasions.

All the hype surrounds Alcaraz, but the young Spaniard has never been past the quarter-finals at Roland Garros, and Djokovic’s superior experience should stand him in good stead at 13/5 on tennis betting sites.

Casper Ruud Is A Tempting Each-Way Shot

The Norwegian star looks like a tempting each-way punt at 16/1 with Bet365, as he tends to flourish on clay.

Nine of his 10 ATP Tour singles titles came on the surface, including an impressive victory in the Estoril Open earlier this year.

Last year, Ruud - who is currently No 4 in the ATP world rankings - reached the final of the French Open.

He was comprehensively beaten by Nadal, but he will take encouragement from his performances up to that point.

Casper Ruud

Ruud was also the runner-up at the US Open last year, losing to Alcaraz in four sets in the final, and he is knocking on the door of a Grand Slam win.

He is on the opposite side of the draw to Djokovic and Alcaraz, so he would not need to face either man until the final if he makes it that far.

The field is laden with danger, including Medvedev in his side of the draw, but he excels on clay and he could reach the final again.

Hard To Look Past Swiatek For The Women’s Tournament

The world No 1 won the French Open in 2020, reached the quarter-finals in 2021 and then won it again in 2022.

Swiatek went on to claim the US Open last year, taking her tally to three Grand Slams, and she now dominates the women’s game after Ashleigh Barty’s retirement.

Her record at Roland Garros is an impressive 21-2, and she has been in blistering form this year.

The 21-year-old Polish star won the Stuttgart Open on clay in April - her 13th WTA singles title and she is well clear of her rivals in terms of rankings points.

She has been struggling with a minor injury in the past couple of weeks, but Swiatek should be fighting fit at the French Open. It will be difficult for her rivals to stop her and you’ll find the pool at 10/11 with Coral.

Attractive Odds Available On Krejcikova

The 2021 French Open champion is priced at an attractive 25/1 with BoyleSports to repeat her triumph this year.

Krejcikova has a 77% win rate at the French Open, making it her best Grand Slam, and she has also won the women’s doubles twice in the past.

The 27-year-old Czech player won a maiden WTA 1000 singles title earlier this year, beating Swiatek in the process, and she is currently No. 13 in the WTA rankings.

Unfortunately, she is in the same side of the draw as Swiatek, which naturally dents her chances of reaching the final.

Yet Krejcikova is an aggressive player with a strong serve, a complete net game and powerful groundstrokes.

She is also quick, tenacious and blessed with a terrific engine, so she has all the weapons to upset her odds on betting apps.
