The 2024 PDC World Darts Championship action continues and we have searched through betting sites to conjure up some of the best value ahead of round two.
We are just over halfway through the first round action and with the bulk of the round two fixtures yet to begin, we have identified some of the best odds in order to secure a winning bet just before Christmas day.
Ahead of each new round of fixtures, we will be providing detailed insights that feature some of the best value on offer, with this particular treble being enough to earn you odds of roughly 50/1.
Super Smith Has The Power
At 50/1 Ross Smith could be worth an each-way punt to have a good run in this year’s World Championship and he kicks off his quest for the Sid Waddell Trophy on Wednesday evening when he takes on Niels Zonneveld.
Smith's opponent is one of the players who has already experienced the Ally Pally stage this year, claiming a 3-1 victory against Darren Webster in a low-quality affair that saw the game epitomised by the doubling fiasco that entailed at the end of the match.
While we do expect more from the Dutchman when he takes to the stage for his second round clash, he would need to add at least 15 points to his average to cause concern for Smudger, who has made it through this stage in the last two years.
Smith, the biggest 180 hitter in world darts in 2023 on average legs played, can rely on his power-scoring to build up a healthy lead over his opponent if his doubles are not free-flowing.
He averaged in excess of 100 in his first game at the 2023 World Championship and if he follows that up this year, it could be an easy night at the office for the man from Dover.
The 12/5 with BetUK for Smith to run rampant and claim a 3-0 win seems great value and big things could be on the cards for the World No.16 at this year’s event.
Schindler Could Be A Sleeper In The Tournament
A sneakily fascinating match-up takes place on Friday night, as Martin Schindler and Jermaine Wattimena square off in round two.
Wattimena broke many hearts as he sent Fallon Sherrock packing in the previous round, preventing any fairy tale story from the Queen of the Palace this year with a 3-1 victory.
But, the most impressive aspect of his victory was its routine nature and how Wattimena never really let the crowd get their teeth into the game.
With a big German following clearly in evidence at Ally Pally over the opening stages of the tournament, Wattimena may need to call on that experience again here against a man he doesn’t have a great recent record against.
Not only has Schindler won six of his last nine outings against the Dutchman, he is also 25 places higher than Wattimena in the PDC world rankings.
Schindler hasn’t the best record in the World Championship, but he did scare the living daylights out of the current champion Michael Smith in the competition last season. He had a 3-1 lead and three darts in his hand to win the game with a 121 checkout, but Smith dug out a 4-3 victory and went on to win the whole thing.
Worryingly for Wattimena, Schindler can be a power-scorer when he’s in good form and he’ll have seen Sherlock outdo Wattimena in the 180 and 140 stats last time out.
As such, we’re tipping the Schindler -1.5 sets handicap at 6/5 with Unibet as we believe the German should succeed comfortably in this one.
The Polish Eagle Could Fly High In This Contest
Our third and final tip is one you should act swiftly on. Krzysztof Ratajski is 6/1 with BetVictor to secure the match treble (Most 180s, Highest Checkout & Win) in his clash with Jamie Hughes, while other bookmakers offer just 3/1.
The Polish Eagle is the odds-on favourite with betting apps to overcome Yozza in this meeting, after Hughes averaged a mere 81 in a lacklustre round one display.
Ratajski would typically would have no problem picking off that average and we expect him to do so in emphatic fashion when he returns to Ally Pally for a seventh successive year.
The World No.24 has work to do if he wants to get into the PDC's top 16 and a convincing win over Hughes would be the perfect start.
Having made it through his first game in three of the last four years, Ratajski will fancy his chances of defeating an opponent who has never gone further than round two in his previous four appearances.
With just one 180 to his name in his first match against David Cameron, there is sufficient evidence to get on side with his Polish counterpart here.
If Ratajski comes out the traps early he will more than likely claim a runaway victory, potentially limiting Hughes to winning a leg or two for the entirety of the match.
Combining the three components of the bet, we believe the World No. 24 has more than enough ability to dominate each individual aspect and the generous odds offered by BetVictor are definitely worth capitalising on.
