Wednesday's Horse Racing Tips: James Boyle's Best Bets at Newbury

18:30 Newbury – Walson’s Law – 1pt @ 14/1

Walson’s Law may be more of a seven-furlong performer than a miler but he has scored at this trip and I think there’s enough juice in the price to take a chance on him here.

He’s a strong-traveller who needs producing amongst horses in order to be at his best and they didn’t go quick enough for him at this track last time when fourth to Assaranca.

The winner made all and the chances of him catching that speed were always likely to be limited, but he kept on to the line and wasn’t far behind Zatsgood, who is a much shorter price here.

I thought there was promise on his previous start at Ascot as well, also finishing in fourth, and thanks to some leniency from the handicapper, he’s back to a mark in the 70s.

The last time he was at this sort of rating, he won a 7f contest on this track quite easily. The mile here shouldn’t be a problem and I just hope they’re going to go quick enough up top.

That isn’t a certainty to happen but, again, the price on offer feels like it covers those risks. If he gets into a good rhythm under the returning Charles Bishop – who knows best how to deal with him and wasn’t on board for his last three outings – he shouldn’t be far away from any of them.
