Chelsea Transfer Odds: Who Will The New Owners Sign In The Summer Window?

The transfer deadline is right on the horizon, but betting sites reckon there is plenty more business to be done before the market closes for business until January.

Chelsea may well be the busiest Premier League club between now and 11pm on Thursday night.

Their indifferent start to the 2022/23 season continued recently, as Thomas Tuchel’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat by Southampton.

Chelsea’s performance will have only strengthened their manager’s belief that the squad desperately needs strengthening before the weekend.

Wesley Fofana has arrived from Leicester City, with the deal confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

But who else might end the summer as a Chelsea player? Let’s take a look at some of the club’s rumoured targets.

Chelsea Closing In On Aubameyang But Not Done Yet

Chelsea are now widely expected to complete the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona, as indicated by odds of 1/25 with Betfair

Tuchel worked with the Gabon international at Borussia Dortmund and he has made it clear to his superiors that Aubameyang is his top attacking target.

Barcelona need to balance the books after a summer of heavy spending, and the former Arsenal forward has been identified as expendable.

But the deal has been complicated by the horrific news that Aubameyang suffered a broken jaw when his house was burgled by armed robbers over the weekend.

The Athletic reports that intensive talks are scheduled to take place between the two clubs on Wednesday in the hope of making a breakthrough.

Everton Will Be Loath To Lose Gordon At This Late Stage

Anthony Gordon has underlined his importance to Everton in the last few days, scoring both of their goals in recent 1-1 draws with Brentford and Leeds United.

The Toffees have so far been able to hold off Chelsea, but Gordon could attempt to force through a move if the Blues make it clear they are still interested in him.

The 21-year-old is a promising young player, but it is highly debatable whether he is worth the £60m that Chelsea are said to have bid for him last week.

The closer we get to the deadline, the less likely it is that Gordon will depart - as Frank Lampard intimated on Tuesday.

“‘He has showed his worth in the last two games, it is too late, he said. “He is going to be special. In the bigger picture, he has an affiliation with the fans.”

With those comments in mind, a price of 15/8 with Paddy Power does not look particularly attractive.

Blues Now Favourites To Land De Jong Before Deadline

Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong has been linked with a move away from Barcelona all summer long. At first Manchester United were in pole position to sign him.

Then Chelsea jumped to the front of the queue. More recently, Liverpool was seen as the most likely destination.

The Blues are once again the favourites at 3/1, but it seems increasingly likely that De Jong will stay put.

Bet £20 And Get It Back As Cash If It Loses

The Dutchman has made it clear that he does not want to leave Barcelona, where Xavi Hernandez considers him a big part of his plans.

De Jong is currently in London - ostensibly on holiday - though, but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that Chelsea launch a last-ditch attempt to sign him.

Closer to home, Declan Rice remains short in the betting at 15/8. However, he is unlikely to depart from West Ham in this transfer window.

Palace Adamant That Zaha Is Going Nowhere

Wilfried Zaha is perhaps even more important to Crystal Palace than Gordon is to Everton.

The Ivory Coast international has scored four goals so far this season, including a brilliant finish in the 1-1 draw with Brentford on Tuesday.

Zaha has been identified as a possible alternative to Aubameyang for Chelsea, who can be backed at 11/2 on football betting sites to sign him.

But Patrick Vieira does not anticipate Palace’s talisman bidding farewell to Selhurst Park right now.

“I didn't even put that in my head, I didn't even ask myself that question,” Vieira said about the prospect of a Zaha transfer. “I am working with him every day and there is nothing crossing my mind that something like that will happen.”

Late moves for Neymar and Ronaldo simply not feasible

Betting apps are still offering odds on Neymar (15/2) and Cristiano Ronaldo (11/1) ending up at Stamford Bridge, but it is hard to see either move happening from here.

Tuchel has already rejected the chance to sign the Portugal international this summer. Chelsea’s mixed start to the season may have changed his mind, but Ronaldo seems to have accepted that he will not be let go by Manchester United this summer.

As for Neymar, Paris Saint-Germain were open to offers a few weeks ago but will not want to sell the Brazilian so close to the deadline.
