Online Roulette

Roulette is one of the oldest and most popular casino games due to its simplicity. Every roulette wheel spin offers excitement and the chance of big wins, especially if you are betting on single numbers. Accessible to players of any skill level, Online Roulette is a game you can enjoy whether you have a favorite number or a foolproof betting system.

There are two main types of online roulette, European Roulette (single zero) and American Roulette (double zero). The European Roulette table has a spinning wheel divided in 37 slots. The slots are numbered from 0 to 36. Each number on the wheel can be either red or black, except zero is green. The American Roulette wheel is divided into 38 slots, with the addition of the “00” which also comes in green. Thus European Roulette gives you a better chance to win.

Etiquette at the roulette table

Casino table games can add a great social element to gambling. Playing roulette, blackjack or craps allows players to mingle and have fun playing their favourite game with each other, even if they had no prior association.

The dealers usually like to inject a bit of fun into their work too, and will look to create an enjoyable atmosphere for all the players. However, like in any social situation, there are some rules of etiquette to follow, as stepping out of line in a casino could lead to accusations of cheating, or you may just annoy others and reduce everyone’s enjoyment.

“No more bets”

In regards to etiquette when playing roulette at a casino, the most important thing is to know when the table is active. Players are usually given around a minute or so to place their bets, after which, the dealer will spin the wheel and call “no more bets.” Once this is called, the table is closed and you cannot place anymore chips. If you were too late, it’s your fault - the dealer will become frustrated if he or she is badgered to allow bets after the table is closed.

Once the ball has landed in the wheel, the dealer will place a marker on the winning number on the table. Players are forbidden to touch chips at this time as the dealer clears the losing chips and pays out on the winning number. Adding or removing chips at this time may result in expulsion from the casino.

Fellow players

While the rules concerning when the table is live could cost you the game, upsetting fellow players could cost you, and them, a great deal of fun. Camaraderie between players and the dealer can contribute as much to the experience as winning, so don’t over indulge in throwing yourself across the table to reach a number, and try to refrain from too much loud conversation.

Instead, ask someone to put chips on a desired number if you cannot reach it, and feel free to celebrate, but read the liveliness of the table before getting too excited - others around you may not be experiencing the same winning feeling.

Lastly, be sure to stick to your own coloured chips. Each player is assigned their own chip colour to bet with, and it’s important not to mix these with any of your friends’ or families’ chips, even if you’re playing together. This will only work to annoy the dealer if they are then asked to split up winnings into separate piles or are unsure who has actually won their bets.

Equally, be careful when picking up any chips from the table. Accidents happen, but misplaced chips can lead to arguments and accusations.

As long as you remember to be courteous and follow the table rules, roulette is probably the most exhilarating table game of them all. The potential for long odds can lead to big winnings, and with that often comes a lively and celebratory atmosphere in which to gamble.
