Gavin And Stacey Finale: David Beckham Tipped For Cameo; Rudi Set For Return
Excitement for the Gavin & Stacey finale is growing among super-fans after the stars of the show, including James Corden and Ruth Jones, started filming in their beloved Barry Island recently.
Co-creators Corden and Jones confirmed in May the programme is to return for one final episode on Christmas Day this year.
Viewers will eagerly tune in to see how many omelettes Gwen will make, whether Smithy (Corden) accepts Nessa's (Jones) proposal - which was a cliffhanger moment at the end of the last episode in 2019 - and if we finally find out about the fishing trip.
There has been speculation on betting sites about which Gavin & Stacey cast members, aside from the regulars - Gavin (Mathew Horne), Stacey (Joanna Page), Nessa, Smithy and Uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon) - we might see, and there could also be some celebrity cameos.
A Rudi Finale
Sheridan Smith's character Rudi Smith is widely expected to feature in the festive special.
Gavin & Stacey returned for the first time in nearly 10 years in 2019, but Smith wasn't part of the cast then.
However, she looks set to appear in the show for a final time this Christmas, following reports she has filmed scenes.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "She is an incredible actress and stepped straight back into Rudi’s shoes. It was like no time had passed at all.
"Sheridan was over the moon she could go back into the fold and her scenes are brilliant."

Rudi is into 1/3, from 5/2, on specials betting sites to appear in the finale following the news.
What's more, Gavin's parents Mick and Pam Shipman (Larry Lamb and Alison Steadman), Stacey's mum Gwen West (Melanie Walters) and Nessa's ex Dave Coaches (Steffan Rhodri) are all likely to be back for the finale.
But it's not yet been confirmed whether Stacey's brother Jason West, who is portrayed by Robert Wilfort, will return to Barry for the festive episode.
It's 1/2 that Jason does head back for the festivities, while Gavin & Stacey wouldn't be complete without argumentative couple Dawn and Pete Sutcliffe, who are perfectly played by legendary actors Julia Davis and Adrian Scarborough.

Becks In Barry?
Following the news of Rudi's return, former England football captain David Beckham has been clipped into 8/15 on new betting sites to take part in the last-ever Gavin & Stacey episode.
It's well known Corden is good friends with Beckham, and the pair have been up close and personal before.
They shared a bath and cosied up in bed together for a Sport Relief sketch in 2010, and one year earlier Corden portrayed Smithy for a Red Nose Day sketch involving several members of the England team, including Becks.

During the skit, Smithy poked fun at the likes of Beckham, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Peter Crouch and Rio Ferdinand, when he gave them a "team talk".
In one part of the sketch, Smithy jokes to Beckham that they are "practically related" because the ex-England star went to school with his sister.
And following speculation that Smith has filmed scenes as Rudi in the upcoming festive special, could this be Beckham's route into the last-ever Gavin & Stacey episode?
Charlotte's Cameo
Welsh singer Charlotte Church, who is a self-confessed fan of the show, is 9/4 to appear in the Christmas Day finale.
In 2008, Charlotte told the BBC she would "die to be in Gavin and Stacey", and the star even suggested a potential plot, in which she knows Nessa "from way back".
Other pop stars who could be in contention for a cameo include Uncle Bryn's favourite singer - James Blunt.
It is just 4/9 that the You're Beautiful singer makes an appearance in the last-ever Gavin & Stacey episode, but it would be a classic Uncle Bryn moment if he bumped into Blunt and was none the wiser who the singer was.
One way Blunt could appear in the festive special is as a wedding singer, if Nessa and Smithy do get hitched.
Two celebrities who have already appeared in a Gavin & Stacey wedding episode are former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott and Hear'Say singer Noel Sullivan.
They both starred in Nessa and Dave Coaches' wedding episode in the series three finale.
Nessa has claimed to have previously been in a relationship with Prescott, who is 1/2 to make a return to the series, while the Noel in Nessa and Smithy's son Neil Noel Edmond Smith's middle name is after her pop star pal, rather than ex-Deal or No Deal presenter Noel Edmonds.
Sullivan is also 1/2 to make a return for the finale, while fellow pop star Harry Styles - also a pal of Corden - is just 2/1.
What Will Smithy Do?
Gavin & Stacey's 2019 return became the most-viewed non-sporting event in a decade and the most-watched comedy in 17 years after 18.49 million viewers tuned in to see Nessa pop the question to Smithy.
While the episode ended on a cliff-hanger, we will surely find out Smithy's answer on Christmas Day - but what will he do?
Smithy is 1/4 to accept Nessa's proposal, but it would be classic Gavin & Stacey for the character to reject her.
However, there could still be a big day. According to recent pictures obtained by The Sun newspaper, some of the cast were spotted wearing what appeared to be wedding attire during filming.

While fans have waited five years for an answer to the proposal, another situation die-hard viewers have been desperate to find out about for even longer is: What happened on the fishing trip?
If Jason does make a comeback, then fans might finally be able to hear about what happened on Bryn and his nephew Jason's controversial jaunt.
It has been an ongoing joke throughout the seasons that what happened on the said trip shouldn't be discussed - and fans are still in the dark about it.
Co-writers Corden and Jones have even previously said they aren't sure what happened on the fictional excursion, but with the finale looming it is 6/4 we find out, and 4/6 it remains a secret forever.
Whatever happens in the finale and whoever returns for the special episode, it is sure to be another record-breaking one.
