Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse could lead a mass exodus this summer after the Saints were relegated to the Championship.

Betting sites are offering odds on his next destination, and Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs are currently the main contenders to snap him up.

However, Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford and several other clubs are also in the mix, so Ward-Prowse could spark a major transfer tug-of-war.

The 28-year-old midfield maestro has spent his entire career at Southampton, and he recently made his 400th appearance for the club.

However, he is now highly likely to leave, as Ward-Prowse is too good to ply his trade in the Championship next season.

After all, he has 11 caps for England, and he has scored more free-kicks than any other player in Premier League history apart from David Beckham.

He should be able to overtake Beckham next term if he moves to a Premier League club, and there will be no shortage of suitors.

We have rounded up the leading contenders to sign Ward-Prowse below, and you will also find updated odds on his next destination.

The Race for James Ward-Prowse: Why Newcastle United Leads The Pack

Newcastle have emerged as the 7/2 joint favourites with football betting sites to sign Ward-Prowse before the summer transfer window slams shut.

The Magpies already have a magnificent holding midfielder in Bruno Guimaraes, and Ward-Prowse could neatly complement the Brazilian international’s talents.

He is not simply a free-kick merchant, as he also has a great eye for a pass, he is very tidy in possession and he can score goals from open play.

Ward-Prowse arguably has more guile on the ball than the likes of Joe Willock, Joelinton and Sean Longstaff, and he could help spring counterattacks for Newcastle.

He would also bring leadership to the squad, as Eddie Howe’s men seek to take the next step and win trophies next season.

They may need to boost their squad numbers too, as they gear up for a European campaign, so Ward-Prowse looks like an ideal signing.

Howe has made English players a priority since joining the club, bringing in the likes of Nick Pope, Dan Burn and Matt Targett, so a swoop for Ward-Prowse seems probable.

West Ham United: The Dark Horse In The Race For James Ward-Prowse's Signature

The Hammers will target Ward-Prowse as they seek to fill the void left by captain Declan Rice this summer, according to reports.

The West Ham skipper wants to play in the Champions League, and Arsenal and Man Utd are among the teams vying for his signature.

He seems all but certain to leave the club, and manager David Moyes knows that it will take more than one signing to shore up the midfield.

The Hammers will reportedly try to sign Ward-Prowse and more of a holding midfielder, while retaining the services of Lucas Paqueta and Tomas Soucek.

Moyes has grown frustrated by a lack of goals from set-pieces this term, so Ward-Prowse is an ideal candidate, as he can whip in dangerous corners and pose a threat from direct free-kicks.

As such, West Ham are now at 4/1 to sign the Southampton captain and they are certainly an interesting option.

Exploring the Possibility of James Ward-Prowse Joining Tottenham Hotspur

The Spurs squad is in major need of surgery after suffering an alarming slump in form and some dismal results in recent weeks.

The lowlight was a 6-1 defeat to Newcastle in the wake of Antonio Conte’s departure, which sent Tottenham on a doom spiral.

Ryan Mason

They need new signings in every department and Tottenham’s search for a new manager, but a lack of creativity in central midfield has been a particular weakness this season.

That could make Ward-Prowse an attractive target, and Spurs are now priced at 4/1 to sign him this summer.

Is James Ward-Prowse Bound For Aston Villa? Exploring The Transfer Speculation

Aston Villa’s renaissance has been nothing short of remarkable since Unai Emery replaced Steven Gerrard as manager earlier in the season.

The former Villarreal, Arsenal and PSG boss transformed them from relegation candidates to contenders for a place in Europe, and the owners are now poised to back him in the transfer market.

As such, Villa are now priced at 7/1 with new betting sites to beat Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs to the signing of Ward-Prowse.

They are currently well-stocked in midfield, with Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and Emiliano Buendia offering a blend of steel and flair.

However, Luiz may be on the move in the summer, and Emery will be keen to put his own stamp on the squad, so a move for Ward-Prowse could materialise.

The Buzz Around James Ward-Prowse: Is Brighton His Next Stop?

The Seagulls are also poised for a big rebuilding job this summer after manager Roberto De Zerbi admitted that midfielders Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister could leave.

They have been Brighton’s star players this season, along with livewire winger Kaoru Mitoma, so they would leave a major gap to plug.

Brighton have a habit of unearthing hidden gems from around the world, so a move for Ward-Prowse may seem unlikely.

However, they also like signing mature players from Premier League rivals, such as Danny Welbeck and Adam Lallana, so a move for the Saints captain is not beyond the realms of possibility.

They are priced at 8/1 with Bet365 to sign him this summer, and those odds may shorten if Caicedo and Mac Allister end up leaving early in the window.

Where Could Southampton's James Ward-Prowse Land Next? Club Odds Revealed

Brentford are next in the prices at 9/1, and that looks like another interesting punt when you consider their recent forays into the transfer market.

They also follow a Moneyball approach, snapping up unknown players from around the world, but they have had success with signing established Premier League stars too.

Former Burnley captain Ben Mee has proved to be a terrific signing, and they could follow suit with Ward-Prowse.

Fulham and Nottingham Forest are next on the list at 12/1 with betting apps, followed by Man City (16/1), Liverpool (16/1), Wolves (16/1), Crystal Palace (20/1), Chelsea (25/1) and Leeds (33/1).

Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea seem far-fetched, but Fulham and Forest could certainly bid for him when the transfer window opens.
